Austin Scott vs. Tony Hunt debate revisited

i think the penn state coaching staff has done an excellent job of gettin the best players on the field this season, including the tailback position. tony hunt has become a horse. austin has failed to progress at the same rate. his first 2 seasons, he had some setbacks which opened the door for hunt. from all accounts, austin is back to working hard this season. he had a really nice block in the purdue game. fact remains that hunt is the better football player. because of the depth at running back in the big ten, hunt won't get the press he deserves unless he has an LJ type senior season.

one amendment to my last post which deserves its own post.

there has to be somebody on the team who can field punts better than calvin lowry. i used to think he was fine cuz he caught the ball and didnt make mistakes. now, not only is he not a big play returner, he makes stupid mistakes as well. anthony scirotto, lydell sargeant, justin king, rodney kinlaw or somebody needs to volunteer their services. i like lowry as a saftey the majority of the time, but his punt return days should be over.

Since when are you taught to catch a punt inside the 10 yard line?

In case you haven't noticed, special teams are the weak spot right now. That is almost surreal, because it does not make any sense. But as for FG's, Kelley has been excellent, overall. The other special team's blunders are pretty strange.

PSU has great athletes on the team. Therefore, it shouldn't be a problem finding good returners. Most NCAA teams have good returners. PSU doesn't seem to have one. I think JoePa tries to keep his guys healthy by not putting his superstars on the return team. However, the best teams in the NCAA, including USC, does. Maybe JoePa should reconsider. It can be the different in the ball game. As I recall, Breaston's HUGE kickoff return to lead Michigan's comeback win over PSU.

Two points:

I agree Hunt has played far better than Scott, who has been in my opinion, slightly disappoining. I still remember his first game and his first TD against Temple and the crowd went nuts. He was one of the most highly anticipated Freshmen in my recent memory before Dwill, et al.

Punt returns needs some work. We can't give Wisky and "gifts".
