Okay, so we've decided the comparison must be High School.
Explain to me why it's okay to have an open basketball tournament (District 6) where everyone gets in whereas D5 has a "must qualify" style tournament.

Maybe you'll agree with me and say "it's just football" and that basketball and football are apples and oranges. But it yanks me (and maybe I take it all too serious) that the complaints about the system came AFTER Tussey qualified and not in the pre-season. I did not see one post on here regarding "Did Dist. 5 change their stupid playoff system" ... and some of the same people who ridicule it think that D5 should follow suit w/Dist. 6 and have an open basketball tournament. Why is allowing losing records in basketball okay and football not? And again Flakjacket, I apologize if I'm preaching to the choir.

Two years in a row the 6th seed wins.

Last year, 6 NS beat Windber.

This year, 6 TM beat NBC.

Flak, you could have just had 4 teams make it...and then all 4 of them would have had byes last week. That really is the only other way to do it because of the STATE system and when the interdistrict games start. Is it not more reasonable to have games? If it wasn't for that extra week, 4 teams in would be the best fit I think...but that isn't how it works.

D6A has a lot more schools than D5A therefore you do have a tighter range of teams with better records
Why?

I like the idea of playoffs because in football anyone can beat anyone on any given weekend! Playoff football is great to watch, win or you are home.

You hit the nail on the head! Why don't they try to even things out? Somerset plays in the d5 playoffs because of their lonesome status and that they play a d6 schedule. Why not let the d6 WestPAC schools play in d5 playoffs?

Coach... good show. That's what I like to see.

D5 is made up of Bedford, Fulton, and Somerset counties. (I may be forgetting one) Fulton county schools don't have football and the biggest factor is population. More people live in Blair and Cambria counties let alone the rest of d6. More people more schools, less people smaller schools.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there some D6 schools that have petitioned to join D5, but D6 won't let them go? I think I read this on the old LH Sports board.

Why is 4-5 a magical record? So if Tussey wins one of those close games they had, then we wouldn't be having this discussion?

You say a lot of schools have a policy about their football team not being in the playoffs with a sub .500 record. I don't know of any, please inform me which schools these are. I know you would not write something unless it was a fact.

Do you know how many times Portage has made the playoffs in the last 10 years?

By the way, do you check the credentials of your pilot when you get on a plane? How do you know he isn't the 3-6 guy? Comparing pilots to high school football.....apples to oranges.

District 5A is weak. Tussey lost to most of the teams in 6A that would have been close to that 15 or 16 seed next year. How do you explain that? Glendale is a REAL powerhouse. I think Tussey's "success" this year is great for the kids and for their program. However, I would be embarrassed if my district had a 4-6 team playing in the semi's. NBC you should drop football.

District 5 also showed how tough they are in AA both teams losing in the first round. CR fans don't post until you beat a AA team. Bedford I don't have beef with because they play a tough schedule.

Should wrestlers with a losing regular season record not be allowed to compete at districts?
