Re: piaa basketball
Interesting and well done AH.
Your stats verified what I thought I knew....5-AA despite having far fewer teams, had done better (39% by your stats) than 6-AA (34%) in state tournament play over the last 20+ years.

Re: piaa basketball
Very good post...The WPIAL has done well in PIAAs...BUT, this is a bit misleading because many of the WPIAL teams beat up on relatively weak competetition from the western part of PA...I will be curious to see how the WPIAL does now that the brackets have been changed to include teams from the old "east."
I believe that District 1 has been the best in AAAA while District 3 has ruled A, AA, and AAA in terms of PIAA championships.
This year should be a very good year in PIAAs for D-6 again with Blairsville in A facing the stiffest competition from D-10 Kennedy International "University" and Jtown in AAA. Jtown should do very well again this year, with the WPIAL AAA being down this season.
WPIAL AAAA is also down this year.
In contrast, WPIAL AA is by far the best AA district in PA this year...WPIAL AA probably has the 4 best AA teams in the entire STATE in BFalls, QValley, Jeannette, and Quippa. You read it here first: Districts 5 and 6 have NO CHANCE to beat any of these 4 class AA teams. Just pencil in the Ws now. Go ahead and hang this on your bulletin boards...It won't make a bit of difference, guys. You know it and I know it.
So, savor and enjoy your D-5 and D-6 AA championships because you'll be packing away the equipment soon after.
Let the games begin!
