Check this out. Especially read the stats and check out the pics. Is this place gonna be fantastic or what? That is unbelievable if they can manage to get that place completed that quick.

I found this stat to be particularly interesting:

Width of Stadium Seat 17 in. to 20 in.

If Old Stanford Stadium had 17" wide seats and sat 85,500 they could have become the biggest stadium in the land by doing the Nittany Lion pare down thing and going to 12" wide. By my math that would have made capacity 121,125.

When I read how they want to bring their program back into prominence and the upgrade will actually reduce capacity to 50,000 capacity, it took me back to some of the outrageous pre-season comments regarding attendance as being of utmost importance in "how good" your program was.

Then you took it the wrong way. I said all along that there is a point where too many seats is simply too many seats. 107,000 people want to see PSU games. Do 200,000? The stadium would be half full. Does Stanford sell out? They have two sections for possible upgrades, as stated on the site. The beauty of this stadium is in the comfort level and the fact they are admittedly trying to get back on top. A lot easier to attract 50k to a great stadium that 85.5K to a dump.

Very good points AE and I agree totally....my sarcasm was directed at some of the nit-wits that think total numbers mean everything.

It should definitely make it easier to recruit and plus Stanford is known as a western ivy league school with very high education standards and that should help too

Sadly enough, high academic standards do not help build a top D1 football or basketball program. There are some schools that do well with high academic standards, but it's guaranteed that many of their players would not be going to school there if they weren't great players. I remember reading about a Notre Dame player (I think it was Zorich) some years ago that scored around 700 on his SAT's. He was an all-american on the field, but not in the classroom. I really don't think he's an isolated case.

But it definitely does not hurt recruting a Stanford degree looks better than a lot of other schools
