Anyone Else Noticing this UK Mystery?
You have the University of Kentucky, who sucks very much at football. They have a coach who should have been fired last season, midway. Then he should have been fired at the end of the season. Then he should have been fired half way through this season. Then he should have been fired when the Cats played their last miserable game this year. But still, this guy hangs on to his job. Wildcat fans, as well as all rational observers, are calling for this Rich Brooks' head. But the AD says he is going to be the coach next year. Why???? What has Rich Brooks done to show ANY progress? It would be different if the games were all 10-7.
To further this mystery, UK right now has 18 commitments. The most baffling of them being Micah Johnson, the 2nd highest rated DE in the nation. Johnson was being chased by many top schools, including Alabama (who has a great defense), Georgia, Louisville (in-sytate UK rival that is a million times better than UK), Michigan, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. All of those teams are serious powers. But Johnson verballed to Kentucky! Make sense out of that. There is no way Rich Brooks is going to have a magical '06 campaign and turn it around. Kentucky is garbage on all football fronts. If you wanna turn a team around, that is awesome. That's why you go to South Carolina or South Florida or Texas Tech. Yes, UK was blown out by Indiana. If the guy recruiting you is on the hot seat, what's the point? It just doesn't even make any sense.

perhaps there is something OFF the gridiron that appealed more to micah about UK than the other schools...believe it or not, some kids go to college to get an education as well as play sports

STRAIGHT
Maybe that is why the AD is keeping him around because he is having a good recruting class. Maybe Micah Johnson wants to be the star on a team instead of being surronded by stars.

Hey, kids are kids. By the same token, why would a player sign with a school who has a 78 year old coach? Is he going to be around for 4 or 5 years?

Rich Brooks isn't the 2nd winnest coach in I-A history. Why do kids even go to FSU? Bowden won't be there much longer either. Kentucky has no prestige. That's like being able to play for any team in the area and wanting to go play for Shade.
