Once again, schedule te weak ones at the beginning of the season, and you won't be playing for a national championship at the end. Yes, they have ND scheduled. They'll more than likely lose. So, it does make sense to pick up a team that they can beat. Just don't go ripping on other teams for scheduling weak teams if your team does the same.

Re: What a Freakin' Joke!!!!!
You PSU guys are SOOOO 2 faced it's unbelieveable. Both WVU and Pitt took alot of abuse about having I-aa teams on their schedule. Now the tables are turned, and you guys try to slough it off. And NOW bdftbllham is promoting Akron because they just made a bowl game. I can go back and find all the quotes from you guys about how PSU would NEVER schedule a I-aa team, or how there were LOTS of I-a schools available for that new open date. What a joke!! What goes around comes around. If you guys were REAL gentlemen, you'd apologize for criticizing BOTH Pitt and WVU regarding I-AA scheduling.

I am one who said that PSU would never schedule a I-AA team and think it stinks. I think Franny, et al, could have found someone better, but IF any I-AA team was to be scheduled, Youngstown State is one of the better ones. Lesser of evils.

Re: What a Freakin' Joke!!!!!
Is anyone really shocked? I mean, it's the Penn State way! Say one thing, do another.
One of my personal favorites was when they beat Kansas in the '70 Orange Bowl on a 2-pt. conversion and when Joe was asked about his decision to go for the tie or the win (there was no OT yet) he said "That's easy, you gotta go for the win, I'll NEVER play for a tie."
Funny how 14 seasons later down 24-21 to Pitt, JoPa opted for the field goal and the tie in the '83 game.

You Nitters act like the Big East schools had 10 years to find replacements for BC, VT, and Miami. Like you guys always argue, schedules are made far in advance. Look how much trouble PSU had in replacing one team, the Big East teams had to find three replacements. Big difference.

Re: What a Freakin' Joke!!!!!
This is the second year in a row Pitt has played a I-AA team. I guess they didn't have time to find a I-A replacement. PSU scheduled YSU late in the scheduling period and scheduled them for next year, not 2007 or 2008. What's the Big East's excuse for having a year or two to find a replacement and sticking with I-AA opponents?
YSU was the second place team this year in the Gateway. First place team was Northern Iowa who is in the semis right now against Texas State.
YSU is a good team, and so is Furman. Neither of us went out and got Cheyney or Colorado A&M Tech. It is better to schedule a good team than schedule a cellar-dweller if you have "bad" teams on your schedule. It is better, right now, to have App. State or Texas State on your schedule than Slippery Rock or IUP-Punxatawney. Same goes for MAC champ Akron vs. Ohio or Buffalo.

Re: What a Freakin' Joke!!!!!
They asked Paterno if Youngstown State was his first choice for replacing Lousiana Tech. He said, "Not really. But IPFW doesn't have a football team".

Re: What a Freakin' Joke!!!!!
Let's not rehash who's good in I-aa and who isn't. The point is, all you nits said that PSU would never never ever ever schedule a I-aa team under any circumstances what-so-ever. Reminds me of several years ago when I heard that there would never ever be a black QB at Penn State. Who's making these predictions anyway???
