Let's say Fisher DeBerry has been coaching 15 years at Air Force, and all 15 years he was slowly starting to realize that his teams were losing because there were no black kids. Now, if you're the head coach, and your team still does rcruit (even though its an academy) who's fault is it that you don't have any black players to win games with? Why did it take DeBerry 15 years to realize this, and why are there still no blacks on the Air Farce team? Is THAT not a sign of a bad coach?

Don't kids still have to be "appointed" to one of the service academies? Maybe minorities are not actively "pursuing" appointments to the Academy.

I was always under the impression that kids who wanted to go to the Air Force or Navy would go to school for 4 years and then do their service in their military branch. Didn't Staubach get drafted and have to wait 4 years to play in the NFL?

Yes you are correct. Usually appointed by a member of Congress, etc.
