"Remembering James Dungy"
Re: "Remembering James Dungy"
You know why the Mormons are big on family trees? Because they believe you can pray your ancestors into Heaven. Just look up great-great grandpappy and pray him on up, even though he was a very, very bad man while he was on Earth. My thought is, you only get one chance, WHILE YOU ARE LIVING. Not after you are dead!!!

They assume he's in hell because you can't ask forgiveness after you die, and taking a human life, including your own, is a sin.

Does THAT sin have more weight than taking the Lord's name in vain, or coveting thy neighbor's wife? Just how many people die sinless each day? Heaven must be pretty empty.

Re: "Remembering James Dungy"
I agree with just about all that's been said on this thread. I was raised to believe that even if you profess to be a Christian and take your own life, you will go to hell. The sin is taking the life. Gunner, Purgatory is for the Catholic belief, not all Christians. You probably know that though. The sad thing is, that, anything having a connection to a "celebrity", I. E. Tony Dungy, if the media gets wind of it, and news is slow that day, it automatically becomes a headline. "People love it when you lose, give us DIRTY LAUNDRY"(Don Henley). The media doesn't care for Dungy's family, all they care about is will the COLTS be affected by this and will their projected Super Bowl winners (mine too) be adversely affected? At least FOX news leads off with some kind of a 'good' story and not Doom and Gloom. I'm sure George W. Bush had something to do with James Dungy's death, if you listen to the right media person or liberal celebrity. The fact is James Dungy had a BIG legacy to live up to, all his life, with his Dad being a famous ex-pro footballer and now successful NFL Coach. Some people just can't handle the footsteps they have to follow. How many local kids have done just the same as JD, for just the same suspected reason? Too many. How many people out there have had a family member or friend commit a serious crime and do time for it, and then guiltily feel it is up to them to try to live down the notorious legacy the criminal has left behind just because of their family or friend connection? I know I have. I'm not ready to off myself over it though. Feel sorrow for TD's family and friends. It's now their burden.
