Windber graduate named to all-region team
MANSFIELD – Windber graduate Keith Slezak, a defensive end for Mansfield, has been named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-Northeast Region second team.
A senior elementary education major, Slezak made 72 tackles this season, including 39 solo. He had five tackles for a loss totaling 36 lost yards. He added 1.5 sacks, an interception, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

This All-Northeast region? What does it encompass? What divisions of football? I-A? I-AA? Div II? Geographically, to where does it extend?

Slezak honored by ESPN The Magazine
Mansfield University defensive end Keith Slezak has been selected to ESPN The Magazine’s All-District II First Team in voting conducted among sports information directors in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
Slezak’s first-team selection allows him to advance to the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
To qualify for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.20 GPA and be a starter or significant reserve. Only first-team All-District selections advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.
Slezak, a Windber graduate, served as a captain this season for Mansfield, finishing third on the team in tackles with 72, including 39 solo. In addition he recorded five tackles for a loss with 1.5 sacks, an interception and four pass breakups.
Recently named to All-PSAC East Second Team honors for the second straight season, Slezak also earned PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier in the year.
Slezak has started every game during the past three seasons at defensive end, where he recorded 171 tackles including 85 solo, 21.5 for a loss and 6 sacks.
Slezak is majoring in elementary education at Mansfield.
College GameDay to spotlight Penn State
ESPN’s popular College GameDay will originate from East Lansing, Mich., for No. 5 Penn State’s battle at Michigan State on Saturday.
The program airs Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Penn State fans going to the game are encouraged to attend the GameDay broadcast near Spartan Stadium.
The Nittany Lions and Spartans will kick off at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams. ESPN will televise the contest to a national audience with Mike Tirico, Mike Gottfried and Alex Flanagan calling the action.
College GameDay will be covering a Penn State game for the second time this season. The show originated outside the Bryce Jordan Center for Penn State’s win over Ohio State on Oct. 8.

The Northeast Region (Divison II) includes PA, WV, NJ, DE, MD, and District of Columbia.
These regions are used for the playoff system in most sports. The NCAA playoffs start with the regions and then you advance to the National Tournament usually held in Montgomery Alabama for Division II.
The All-Region Honor is a step above All-Conference, and a step below All-American.

My question is: If he was only 2nd team all-PSAC, how could he be second team ALL-NORTHEAST REGION?? Weren't there alot of other conferences that had 1st teamers that should have been considered ahead of him, or is the PSAC the greatest conference in the Northeast Region, and a 2nd teamer there is much better than a 1st teamer somewhere else.
