cerberusjw,

Yes! I too was there, to witness the second nights action. Westmont has a nice team, & they all shoot rather well.

I wonder who showed them how to shoot like that ??

Anyways, Westy should bring home some good bacon in their District # 6 quest,. after that though, it gets to be slim pickens. After watching both teams play, neither team will make it very far in the playoffs

I've come to the conclusion that both will do just fine in their respected leagues / conferences/ districts, but Windber lacks size & shooting ability. They have great hustle on defense which does keep them in the game & they are not very healthy right now in the physical part of their game. Against Westmont , one of their main starters ( Mr. Matt Mandel) didn't pay because of the prior nights high ankle sprain that he received against Everett. That hurt their physical aspect part of the game for rebounds.

Westmont is big & fairly solid inside. Their height is real nice size for a (AA) team in this area. They lack a good set of guards (my opinion) the guys they have, get it done, but it's a constant struggle which will show up when play-offs start up. A team such as Kennedy Cath. or "The Falls" will exploit that when time comes.

Never~the~less !!!! Congrats to a fine played tournament at Windber. "35" years is a bunch of time to wait to get one under the belt. But it's a sweet thing, when it comes again.

Like the P.A. annoucer said, Mr Mark Rossi has played with the elete bunch of other M.V.P.'s through out the years of the tournament.

Hey! you never know??? maybe both Westy teams could go to Hershey together ???

Good Luck Coach Roman, & Coach Charney,
Happy NEW YEAR in "2006"

The Tribune article was a little misleading. Westmont won the Windber Rotary in 2001. If you look at the Rotary Tournament Program, there is a error. It lists every game that has ever been played in the tournament. In 2001, Westmont beat Bedford 67-54 in round 1. Somerset defeated Windber 46-38 in round 1. Westmont beat Somerset 59-38 in the Championship Game.

The error in the program is located in the list of past champions where it has Windber listed as the Champion, when in fact, Windber went 0-2 in the 2001 Tournament.

Heaven & Hoops,

Good observation. I never noticed that, until you just wrote this.

I'm going to have to let those Rotary folks know about this...

You know I've been going to the Windber Rotary Tournament now, since "1967" & I've also noticed that the programs are getting cheaper looking too. They used to be all white with all blue lettering & made of good booklet type of paper & had a number embossed at the lower right hand corner, which when you bought one, you now where eligible to win a basketball when they picked out a number at each half time game, of each night. A total of (4) basketballs where given away. NOW! no number, no nice program, the wrong information, & now the letttering is so darn small, you can't even read it ???
What's up with that :?: :x

I bet if Rich Manippo was still alive, he'd have it fixed. or maybe it would be the same as it always was?

I think we are experiencing a turn of events here?

I know commitees have to cut costs in places but, Wow -Wee !!!!

For the first class tournament that they said it was, & bragged it up to be at the game this year, I beg to differ.

I'm a proud windberite in my own fashion too & this seems to have a tarnishment instilled...
