A Sign of the Annual Exodus from Oakland is About to Begin??
A Sign of the Annual Exodus from Oakland is About to Begin??
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
A change of heart has cost Pitt a football recruit.
Eric Rodemoyer, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound offensive lineman at Kennedy Catholic near Sharon, made a verbal commitment to Pitt last summer. But he recently changed his mind and committed to West Virginia earlier this week.
"Actually, it was just a change of heart more than anything else," said Kennedy Catholic coach Mike Donato.
When Rodemoyer committed to Pitt last summer, the Panthers and Akron were the only schools to offer scholarships at the time. West Virginia offered shortly after Rodemoyer chose Pitt.
"West Virginia sort of kept recruiting him," Donato said. "I think their success this season was probably a big thing. He was able to see them play on the big stage.
"West Virginia is kind of the benchmark of the Big East right now. Everyone is kind of trying to get where they're at. But I think Pitt's on the right road. They've done a great job recruiting this year."

Hey. That's another scholarship Pitt can offer to someone else. At least he didn't prick Pitt on LOI day. The kids a gentleman, just read his comments. Had a change of heart.

So we're going to believe what a parochial football coach says?

I'm sure his decision has nothing to do with program success.

Rich Rod must have been stalking him like he did Scott Corson at Johnstown High last week.

No kidding. According to today's Tribune Review, BOTH Paterno AND Bradley were at Duquesne High School on Wednesday. They must have really been interested in Fields.

Hopefully he'll be able to play for somebody. I heard his grades were REAL bad, and that's why PSU didn't go after him.

The question as to whether he actually received a scholarship offer from PSU is a bit hazy, I think he did, but there are some reports that suggest he did not.
The issue are his SAT scores, which supposedly were not close to qualifying. He was supposed to take them again last week.
