With less than one week left in the WPIAL girl’s basketball regular season, 64 teams have already clinched a postseason berth. However there are still as many as 8 playoff spots up for grabs. Here is a section-by-section look at the WPIAL girl’s basketball playoff picture.

CLASS AAAA Section 1:

* Norwin (12-1), Hempfield (10-3), Greensburg-Salem (8-5) and Latrobe (8-5) are all in
* Norwin has clinched the section title
* If both Latrobe and Penn-Trafford tie for 4th place, both teams will make the playoffs after splitting head-to-head
* Penn-Trafford needs to win at home against Norwin on Thursday PLUS they need Latrobe to lose at Kiski Area on Thursday

CLASS AAAA Section 2:

* Oakland Catholic (13-0), Gateway (10-3), Penn Hills (9-4) and Woodland Hills (9-4) are all in
* Oakland Catholic has clinched the section title

CLASS AAAA Section 3:

* New Castle (13-0) and Seneca Valley (9-4) are in
* New Castle has clinched the section title
* Shaler (8-5), Butler (8-5) and Fox Chapel (8-5) are all fighting for the final two playoff spots
* Shaler is at Fox Chapel on Thursday...the winner clinches a playoff spot
* Butler is at New Castle on Friday
* So far in head-to-head between Shaler, Butler and Fox Chapel - Shaler is 2-1, Fox Chapel is 2-1 and Butler is 1-3
* If Butler beats New Castle, the loser of Shaler at Fox Chapel is out
* If Butler loses to New Castle and Fox Chapel beats Shaler, then both Butler and Shaler clinch a playoff spot
* If Butler loses to New Castle and Shaler beats Fox Chapel, the Fox Chapel is in and Butler is out

CLASS AAAA Section 4:

* Mount Lebanon (10-1), Bethel Park (9-2) and Upper St. Clair (6-5) are all in
* Mount Lebanon has clinched at least a share of the section title and wins it outright with a victory at home against Upper St. Clair on Thursday OR a Bethel Park loss at home to Peters Township on Friday
* The winner of Trinity (5-5) at Canon-McMillan (5-6) on Thursday clinches a playoff spot
* If Trinity loses, they can still clinch a playoff spot with a win at home against Ringgold
* If Canon-McMillan loses, they are elimiated from the postseason chase


CLASS AAA Section 1:

* Mars (12-1), Hampton (10-3), North Catholic (10-3) and Kittanning (8-5) are all in
* Mars has clinched the section title

CLASS AAA Section 2:

* Hopewell (13-0) and Moon (10-3) are in
* Hopewell has clinched the section title
* Ambridge (7-6), Montour (7-6) and Blackhawk (7-6) are all tied for at least two playoff spots
* Ambridge is home to Blackhawk on Thursday...the winner clinches a playoff spot
* Montour is at West Allegheny on Thursday
* So far in head-to-head between Ambridge, Montour and Blackhawk - Amb is 0-3, Mont is 2-2, Black is 3-0
* If Montour wins, the loser of the Blackhawk at Ambridge game is out of the playoff chase
* If Montour loses and Blackhawk beats Ambridge, Montour is in and Ambridge is out based on head-to-head tiebreaker between the Spartans and the Bridgers
* If Montour loses and Ambridge beats Blackhawk, Blackhawk is in and Montour is out based on head-to-head tiebreaker between the Spartans and the Cougars

CLASS AAA Section 3:

* Indiana (13-0), Southmoreland (11-2), Uniontown (10-3) and Derry (7-6) are all in
* Indiana has clinched the section title

CLASS AAA Section 4:

* Thomas Jefferson (13-0), West Mifflin (12-1), Elizabeth Forward (8-5) and Chartiers Valley (6-7) are all in
* Thomas Jefferson has clinched at least a share of the section title and can win it outright with a victory at West Mifflin on Thursday. If West Mifflin wins, the Titans and Jaguars will be co-champs
* Keystone Oaks (5-8) can also clinch a playoff spot with a victory at Chartiers Valley on Friday


CLASS AA Section 1:

* Greensburg Central Catholic (13-0), Ford City (11-2), East Allegheny (8-5) and Apollo-Ridge (8-5) are all in
* Greensburg Central Catholic has clinched at least a share of the section title

CLASS AA Section 2:

* Neshannock (13-0), Riverside (10-3) and New Brighton (8-5) are all in
* Neshannock has clinched the section title
* Beaver Falls (7-6) and Laurel (7-6) are still tied. If they end up tied, both teams will qualify after going 1-1 against each other
* Beaver Falls home to New Brighton on Thursday
* Laurel is home to Shenango on Thursday

CLASS AA Section 3:

* Bishop Canevin (12-1), Seton-LaSalle (10-3), Sto-Rox (8-5) and South Park (8-5) are all in
* Bishop Canevin has clinched the section title
* Seton-LaSalle (9-3) is one win away from clinching a playoff spot
* South Fayette (7-6) can also clinch a playoff spot with a win at Brentwood on Thursday PLUS a loss by Sto-Rox at Home against Seton-LaSalle on Thursday OR a loss by South Park at home to Chartiers-Houston on Thursday

CLASS AA Section 4:

* Shady Side Academy (10-1), Wilkinsburg (10-1) and Northgate (6-5) are all in
* Shady Side Academy and Wilkinsburg are tied for the section lead. Shady Side Academy is home to Riverview on Thursday while Wilkinsburg is at South Allegheny on Thursday
* If Riverview (4-7) wins at Shady Side Academy on Thursday, Riverview is in and Springdale is out because the Raiders were 2-0 against the Dynamos. If Riverview loses, then Springdale (5-7) clinches a playoff spot

CLASS AA Section 5:

* Washington (13-0), Fort Cherry (11-2), Charleroi (10-3) and Beth-Center (6-7) are all in
* Washington has clinched the section title
* IF Bentworth (5-8) can win at home against Beth-Center on Thursday, they will also clinch a playoff spot since they will have split their two meetings with Beth-Center

CLASS AA Section 6:

* Avonworth (11-1), Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (9-1), Center (7-4) and Freedom (5-6) are all in
* Avonworth has clinched a share of the section title. OLSH can clinch a share of the section title with a win at Aliquippa on Wednesday and home against South Side Beaver on Thursday
* South Side Beaver could finish tied with Freedom but would lose the head-to-head tiebreaker after losing both games to Freedom


CLASS A Section 1:

* Monaca (10-1), Farrell (10-1) and Rochester (8-3) are all in
* Monaca and Farrell are tied for the section lead. Monaca is home to Western Beaver on Thursday while Farrell is home to Rochester on Thursday
* Western Beaver (4-7), Sewickley Academy (4-7) and Quigley (3-8) are still alive for a playoff spot
* Western Beaver is at Monaca on Thursday while Quigley is at Sewickley Academy on Thursday
* IF Western Beaver and Sewickley Academy both win, Sewickley Academy clinches a playoff spot and Western Beaver is out based on the Panthers 2-0 record this year against the Golden Beavers
* IF Quigley beats Sewickley Academy and Western Beaver loses to Monaca, then all three teams will be 2-2 in head-to-head and all three teams will qualify for the postseason

CLASS A Section 2:

* Geibel (10-1), Avella (10-2), Carmichaels (7-4), Jefferson-Morgan (6-5) are all in
* Geibel has clinched at least a share of the section title and can win the championship outright with a win at California on Thursday. If the Gators lose, then Avella will share the section title with Geibel

CLASS A Section 3:

* Serra Catholic (6-1), Duquesne (6-1), Monessen (4-3) and Clairton (2-5) are all in
* Serra Catholic and Duquesne are tied for the section lead. Serra Catholic is home to Clairton on Thursday while Duquesne is at Monessen on Thursday

CLASS A Section 4:

* Mount Alvernia (7-1), Vincentian Academy (7-1), St. Joseph (4-4) and Leechburg (2-6) are all in
* Mount Alvernia and Vincentian Academy have clinched a share of the section title
