W.P.I.A.L. RECRUITS TOP THE STATE:@ P.I.A.A. District #7 (WPIAL) had "32" Division I football recruits on national letter of intent signing day, the most of any region in Pennsylvania according to a Web site that tracks statewide high school recruiting.

The statewide total of Division I recruits was 85 according to pasportsfever.com.

There were "22" Division I recruits from southeastern Pennsylvania, an area that includes P.I.A.A. District #12 and #1 and the Philadelphia Catholic League and Inter-Ac League.

P.I.A.A. District #3 teams produced "16" Division I recruits.

Also, at least four other Division I recruits plan to spend next fall at prep schools. All-state running back LeSean McCoy, who left Bishop McDevitt and enrolled at Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y., plans to attend Miami after finishing his academic work at Milford.

Gateway lineman Chris Hanna is headed to Milford, while Waynesboro running back Mike McKenzie and Wilson Area wide receiver Brad Wilson plan to attend Fork Union Military Academy in Chatham, Va.

Big East Conference schools signed "31" Pennsylvania players. Of Pitt's "26" recruits, "14" are Pennsylvania players. Penn State recruited six Pennsylvania players.
