Re: D5 seeds
For my two cents on Bedford. I think if the program has a weakness it is with the assistant coaches. If you look at the past assistants compared to what is currently there (at least the ones I know of), the quality is not the same. Just my opinion. They may be good, but in the past Bedford has had some great assistant coaches. Plus, from my memory, there were more of them. I only see a couple of assistants at the matches I've been to.
Obviously Easter and Ripple are doing something right at the Jr High level. I don't know who the elementary coaches are, so I can't say if they are passing on good talent or not. Joel was an outstanding wrestler in high school (3 state medals I believe) and Robbie was a very hard worker who got the most out of his talent. I think he placed 3rd at states his senior year. This does not make them good coaches necessarily, but it appears that they are training the kids well enough to win alot of matches.
Funny that one person on here is complaining there is not enough discipline in varsity and the other is saying there is too much. My opinion is there can never be too much. But each situation is different. All the kids have to do is follow the rules and not get in trouble. Seems simple but some kids have a hard time doing that.
I can't imagine how some of these kids today would have done wrestling for Eddie Clark. Probably would have had about 3 or 4 kids left on the team at the end of the season. Whippersnappers!

Re: D5 seeds
Humm, sounds like people on here are getting it wrong. Jr. High and Varsity are two different animals. If that was the case, any coach could do it and Bedford and CR would be tops in the state.
I have not known a coach ever to try to hurt the team. Maybe you dont agree with everything, but then you need to volunteer your time and make a difference.

Re: D5 seeds
So you would say that Bedford's current assistants are comparable to Burket, Jan Clark, and Topper to name a few?
I don't know much about Creps as a coach. My thinking is that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but that is terrible reasoning. I don't think Bill Creps was on the mat showing kids wrestling moves. Maybe I'm wrong. He was more of a tactician I thought. The real strength of that program seemed to me to be the assistants.
I'm not knocking the current assistants. They could be great and I wouldn't know that because I am not in the wrestling room at practice. And to be honest, it's none of my concern other than I would like to see Bedford return to having very strong wrestling teams. I'm sure the current staff is doing what they can to make it that way and would like to see the same themselves. Parents, fans, and the admin need to support the staff as best they can and stop all of the in-fighting.
Anyone who takes the time to teach the young kids at any school need to be commended. More people need to say 'thanks' to them and let the coaches do their job.

Re: D5 seeds
I agree analyst, the assistants are not as strong as those old timers, but Deputy grew up in the program and Caroll was very successful and even had a stint at Clarion.
My opinion is that all programs that are struggling have fewer numbers and too much parent input. In the good old days when I wrestled no parent would question a coach and moan and complain. The kids always made weight and the community came out every match. Things are just different now.
