The best thing that could happen for Penn State's recruiting would be for Pitt to join the Big Ten.

I can dig up old articles too.

PSU-Pitt

"It doesn't matter that Pitt didn't join the Big East until after Penn State had applied and been rejected."

"This isn't a Pitt-Penn State problem. It's a Pitt-Paterno problem."

This articles also gives some credit to PSU stating that Pitt needs PSU more than PSU needs Pitt.

Who knows maybe South Flordia will do more for the Big East than Penn State would have. South Flordia is solid at every sport. That is obvious considering that they won 1 big east basketball game this year.

The Big East probably would still have the same number of teams in the Final Four.

Big Ten fans don't have much room to talk this year. As much as I hate to say we were horrible in the Tournament. The NIT was best for the Big Ten with Michigan in the finals.

There's a lot of people that think that Penn State's membership in the Big Ten is a mistake based on geography alone. We are 5.5 hours from our nearest conference team, Ohio State. I think that the Penn State basketball program would today be much better had we been in conference battles with Big East teams rather than Big Ten teams. It's gotta be harder to get kids from places like NYC based on "hey come play in the Big Ten and play in areas you've never even considered going to" like Minnesota or Wisconsin. Geography and level of competition has a lot to do with things, and that's why I think that the argument put forth by Big East schools against the Paterno Plan is unfounded, because PSU's dormant basketball team would have gotten better if they were all fighting over the same pools of talent. That initial lack of basketball revenue would have been made up quickly in time. It is almost a fact not even worth debating that the Big East is the best basketball conference, and PSU could have played an underdog role and recruited kids passed up by Pitt and WVU. Those kids would stil play in the best conference in the country if they went to Penn State, instead of playing against Big Ten teams. That's just my opinion, and I like PSU in the Big Ten football wise, but they are really at a disadvantage it seems when it comes to area-recruiting with basketball, and it doesnt help when teams like OSU and Illinois and Iowa get knocked out of the tourney early, and UM gets slaughtered by South Carolina.
