Meb was originally born in Africa. Forget which country. He won the silver for the USA at the Athen Olympics.

Nice time, would have been awesome if Brian could have broken 2:10. Still Culpepper won the last USA Olympic Marathon Trial.

Dang, the internet is great except I am not getting much done at work!

Thanks for the updates. That is freakin' awesome.

You don't have to be a follower of the runners' world to know that the Boston Marathon is one of the (if not the) premier long distance events in the world. To have a local boy competing at that level is great.

Congrats to Mr. Sell.

Lemme see...Does anyone realize how difficult it is to run ONE 5 minute mile, let alone 26+ 5 minute miles IN A RACE??? Absolute insanity. Remember, there are no timeouts in a marathon!

Great accomplishment, Brian Sell!!!

WPIAL update: Shaler Area alum Sam Bair continues to run well for Pitt. Sam turned a 3:43.50 1500m last week at the Texas Relays in gettinmg a solid 2nd place behind an All-American from last season.

Sam also ran 3:46 for 1500m this past weekend at the U of Tennessee, finishing 3rd after getting tripped and falling with a lap to go, where he was poised to win the race. Word is he lost at least 4 seconds with his fall.

Sam also ran 4:00.14 in the indoor mile in a meet at Penn State in January, as he just missed breaking 4:00 mile barrier.

WHEN Sam breaks 4:00 in the mile, he and his father will become the first father/son combo in USA Track and Field history to break 4:00 in the mile. The 1500m equivalent to breaking 4:00 in the mile is 3:42.27.

Look for Sam to run around 3:40 for 1500m in the right race as the Big East, NCAA Regionals, and NCAAs come around and perhaps turn a sub-4:00 mile relay split at Penn Relays in the DMR in a few weeks.

Looking back, running those 400's in practice and barely beating Sell and Moyer while they were on their 4 or 5 mile is starting to look pretty good! Thanks Rep!!!

Sell would actually keep up with fresh legs on every lap! The guy was AMAZING!!
