1. The NB invite has never given team awards. Coaches were made aware of this. Your coaches should have known. I understand your disagreement in philosophies on the team award but we'll just have to agree to disagree. Bottom line is nobody should have driven from anywhere or stuck around anywhere for team awards because all those involved in the meet knew their were none--and Ridge was at the meet in 2005 as well.

2. There has never been a trophy for the team champion given at EITHER the SHL or BCL meets. NEVER. There are outstanding individuals in each of the disciplines for the BedCo meet.

3. Officials dictate what occurs involving a meet once it begins just like in all other sports.

4. Results were posted until they were unable to be posted.

5. The meet cannot start earlier as per directive from the NB administration. It started a half-hour later this year than last year. Thus no finals with the larger field. I will again plea for an earlier start and if granted add teams and finals in sprints/short hurdles but I will almost guarantee it will be shot down. They don't want busses on campus before dismissal. We are off a half-day for District 5 meet. Until that changes we will run the meet similar to Bellwood Invite regarding seeding and heats/sections for finals.

6. Nobody got screwed in timing. That is absurd. A PIAA official was the head (1st place) timer. Some of the good sprinters ran slow, some of the lesser seeded sprinters (Our kid out of the slowest heat--he backed it up with an 11.6 Monday) ran much faster--There was one 3-way tie.....any other ties were below first place and only 2-way...there were no 4-way ties as I believe someone (Lonewolf?) said on here. If you think someone got screwed PM me or see me at a meet and explain, I want to hear it because if there is a problem I want to address it.

Sorry if I came off oversensitive....thus I stick to just some facts above....I can't be accused of not being passionate about this sport!

HR, I think some of the comments made about the way the district meet was run in the past are very unfair. It's easy to look at things in the present and say that they are better. You make the officials at past district meets out to be people who would love nothing better than to disqualify competitors,I think that is a misnomer. A"dictator-like meet worker is a poor description of alot of thh PIAA officials present at past district meets. In addition at states you will not get away with anything that infringes on the rules.I don't agree with all of the rules but they are that "The Rules", and anything you may have found not to be fair in the past was probably an official interpreting the rules as they understood them.Such as the 10 min rule which many officials use today. The PIAA itself needs to clarify things so that disagreements occur less frequently. I also think the dual meet schedule should be that ,a dual meet.Team against team, not invitational style quads and tri meets. The best dual team doesn't always win in these. If I remember right I have seen teams take claim to being district 5 dual meet champs. A title that could go to a team that may or may not win the distict team title coming up.I think you guys are doing a fine job at NBC running meets, time will make it go alot smoother and I know you guys are giving it your best.I like the honor roll and am glad to see the kids in district 5 getting the recognition they deserve. I'm also happy to see that JR high teams are represented in more and more district 5 schools. These are all great accomplishments! We all need to work together to improve our area in this sport not rip one another.

Wasn't ripping past Dist. 5 meets....They were well run in their own right and D. Fisher and staff certainly took D5 to a new level from 1983-2004 from the pre-Fisher era. Now the torch has been passed and it's up to NB to take it up another level and I was pointing out areas where others feel we have done that in our first attempt and I guess trying to defend what people from Ridge feel was a horribly run and organized invitational (only school to have complained).

Was using dual meet vs Tri/Quad scoring to point out that philosophical differences are ok from school to school. There isn't a right or wrong regarding that nor is there regarding Team Trophy for a track meet. Different people have different takes on both issues and good arguments can be presented for whichever side you happen to be on. I Tried to use a philosophical difference in hopes that Jumper22 would understand the whole team trophy bit (That it is not a MUST) so don't take that out of context.

HR, you're right about the dual meet champion versus champion of bigger meets not always being the same. A few quality guys can win a title for a team at a huge meet, as the top few places are worth more points, and depth isn't worth nearly as much unless it can place, and that's very hard with one to two dozen teams competing. Look at some of the "better" teams at the state track meet, and it will probably be one or two guys medaling in multiple events. That's very different from a dual or quad track meet.

And I have to disagree about the SHL and BCL never having trophies. My senior year, we won the SHL meet, and we were presented with a team award, and I'm pretty darn sure it was a trophy. Maybe that has changed in the past couple years, but it was there then in 2004. And the BCL did present trophies, at the very least at sometime, if not while I was school, as Ridge has few trophies for Bedford County Champion in their case. I'm sure students there can take a look and see.

However, that is NOT to say that I am picking a bone with you for not having team trophies. It's your meet, and while team trophies would be nice, your main mission of getting people qualified for districts is an honorable and important goal (as well as making sure your facilities are up and running for districts), and I do agree with you that the individual athletes are the most important consideration (or should be) an nearly any sport, especially one such as track and field.

A lot of time spent typing some enlarged posts.

HR...the following comments are my "neutral" observations meant to help improve the NB invite. Note...the District meet ran much smoother than the invite!

1. Have more food! You can't run out of food that the most important priority!
