The Citadel slight just bugs me. Remember, regarding the Citadel:

"If you actually watched college football and read up on it, you'd know that Citadel's coach is doing a very good job down there in the short time he has been there. Recruiting is up, and MORALE is up. They are a program on the verge of becoming an annual contender."
By the way, The 'del, as some of their hard core fans call em, won their last 2 games of '05; including a big yr ending victory over traditional rival VMI... @ least I'll give them credit for one thing: their OOC schedule; in the past 2 yrs I know they have played Auburn, Duke, Ole Miss and Fla St. and this yr they play Pitt and Texas A&M...But I guess they need to since they don't play mid majors in conf...

SAD STATEMENT

Citadel schedules: Auburn, Duke, Ole Miss, Fla St., Pitt and Texas A&M

Nitwits schedule: You know the drill by now!

Another v-man argument that does NOT make sense.

I-A teams schedule I-AA teams for two reasons: something happened late in the scheduling period and you needed another game, or you are looking for a cheap victory.

I-AA teams schedule I-A opponents for 2 reasons: exposure, and the handsome reward they are paid for taking a loss.

The Citadel's I-A scheduling? Irrelevant, and here's why: #1, see above concerning why teams cross A boundaries. #2 The Citadel plays in a conference. They are a doormat in that conference. Even without those I-A handouts, The Citadel is a joke.

I dont follow offseason I-AA ball as much as I'd like or as much as I follow I-A ball, but the Finger of Shame Award still goes to Jeff Long for this contest with The Citadel. Notice how after the Furman scare (its important to note Furman did not win the I-AA title and therefore isn't even one of the top 3 or 4 teams) that Pitt ran out and found a team that was a doormat to the doormats.

How can you logically claim that that VMI win is of any significance? Rivalry or not, VMI is just as bad as The Citadel is!

"We got Shade on our schedule."
"Shade sucks."
"Last year they beat Rockwood, though."

UHH,

I think you've missed my miming point; the quote re Citadel is in actuality your post from an earlier thread when, in another of your ridiculous reaches, you were trying to rationalize how formidable Akron is! I just substituted Citadel for Akron, Hello!
quot;If you actually watched college football and read up on it, you'd know that Citadel's coach is doing a very good job down there in the short time he has been there. Recruiting is up, and MORALE is up. They are a program on the verge of becoming an annual contender."
Here I was continuing a mock build up of a D IAA progam!
The 'del, as some of their hard core fans call em, won their last 2 games of '05; including a big yr ending victory over traditional rival VMI.
But this part is plain olde fact; regardless of how you attempt to spin it with late scheduling or money making reward rationale! It is what it is: the Citadels' OOC Schedule: Auburn, Duke, Ole Miss,Fla St., Pitt and Texas A&M...Nitwits OOC Schedule: Temple, Cent & East Mich, Fla Int, Akron, Youngstown, Kent, Shade and Rockwood!

UHH, now that makes sense!
I'll give you a heads-up next time I plagiarize, a bit, from you!

How in God's name is scheduling Akron and scheduling the Citadel the same thing? The Citadel is a HORRIBLE I-AA program even by I-AA standards! Akron won their conference, and played in a bowl game. Whether or not they were EVER good before 2005, the fact remains that Akron is coming onto the PSU schedule as a bowl team and CONFERENCE CHAMPION. See, Akron legitimately won their conference in a conference championship game.

TAE, I think you still miss my point. I was actually being facetious! You know, I copied your post re Akron and simply substituted Citadel, to prove a point that "arguing up" what should be an easy win opponent is lame to begin with! Again, Akron lost this past season to ARMY(proclaimed garbage by TAE) @ home 20sometihng-0!!!

Let's leave Gods name out of this one.

Since TAE is a great fan of the Sagarin rankings in football, let's use them to see who has the toughest non-conference schedule for this upcoming year. Here are the schools PSU plays and their 2005 sagarin ranking: Notre Dame (8), Akron (94), Youngstown State (99), and Temple (154). These four opponents had an average ranking of 88.7 . Pitt will play Virginia (31), Michigan State (35), Toledo (49), Central Florida (80), and The Citadel (173). These 5 opponents had an average ranking of 73.6 . So what can we derive from this information? Even with The Citadel on their schedule, Pitt will play the hardest non-conference schedule between the 2 schools. And ONE more thing: If Akron won their conference, why were they rated BELOW Toledo in Sagarin's season ending rankings. And we're not talking about a close ranking either. Toledo was ranked 49, while Akron was ranked WAY BACK at number 94. So you see, what significance is there that Akron won their conference??? None. Just a bunch of fluff for argument sake.

Yes. Pitt was rated below Toledo in the Sagarin Ratings. But if you think that was funny, in 2004 FOUR I-aa were ranked HIGHER than Penn State from the mighty Big Ten. That, my friend, is a disgrace.....Now, getting back to the MYTH about Akron: A lowly as you guys think Pitt was, Pitt was ranked 59th by Sagarin, a full 35 places AHEAD of MAC conference champ Akron. How bad was Akron??? Jeff Sagarin had SIX MAC teams ranked ahead of Akron in his 2005 final poll. SIX TEAMS!!!!! So winning their conference AND going to a bowl game means diddley-squat as far as how tough Akron will be as an opponent this year for PSU. IT MEANS NOTHING!!!!! So go play your Akron, Youngstown State and Temple. Be thankful that ND gave you guys a home and home series.

I would rather play Temple every year then Pitt, heck, I would rather PSU schedule 47 other teams then Pitt.

What did Saragin rank the Big East overall as a conference? Just accept the fact that the Big East will never, ever, be the quality of a conference that the Big Ten is (or the SEC, ACC, Big 12, or PAC-10), and that TO THIS DAY, that some Big East AD's regret that PSU is not a member.

Spin what you will about Akron, but the fact is, that PSU's non-conference schedule is typical of all other Big Ten teams. Gee Pitt, schedules Notre Dame. Good for them, they should at least play one decent team per year along with WVU.

By the way, have you Pitt fans sent that fruit basket to Rich Rodriguez and WVU for saving the Big East from losing their automatic BCS bid yet?

Shame, shame.
