frostlion.....you are forgetting that Pitt plays your fabricated rival, Michigan State, this year as well. I guess they are not a decent opponent in your eyes.

frostlion: We're comparing the non-conference schedules between Pitt and Penn State. Keep to the discussion. Can't you guys defend your schedule without bringing Pitt or the Big East into your defense. It's always the same with you guys. The average sagarin ranking of your 4 non-conference opponents this season is 88.7. Pathetic. Without ND, it would be well over 100. That's pathetic. And what's really bad is...except for ND, the other 3 are at Beaver Stadium. That's 3 gift victories. How can you guys look your self in the mirror. Of course, your defense for this is: all the other Big Ten schools do it, why shouldn't we??? This is a typical Big Ten schedule. Guess that makes it acceptable?

And you would rather play Temple each year than Pitt??? Obviously so would Paterno and the A.D. They jumped at the chance to get Temple on their schedule once they were allowed a 12th game.

But the point is being missed: PSU gets called out for scheduling the likes of Akron and Temple, and for this year, Youngstown State, but Pitt, for the last decade, has routinely scheduled D1-AA schools!
And to rake on PSU for Akron, Cent. Mich, etc. when in the last ten years Pitt is hardly any better?
Ala. Birmingham, 01,02
Ohio, 02,04,05
Toledo, 02,03
Kent, 99,00,03
Bowling Green, 00,99
Villanova, 98
Akron, 98
North Carolina, 98
Houston, 97.
Youngstown State, 98
E. Tenn State, 01.
Say what you will Moldo about PSU in 2004. Remember that magical Pitt season in 1998 when Walt "The Genius" Harris led Pitt to a 2-9 season with magical wins over Villanova and Akron? 2004 for PSU stunk, but never came close to some of Pitt's magical seasons in the last ten years.

I didn't miss any point. Obviously you didn't get My point. You guys just can't defend yourselves WITHOUT mentioning Pitt. You just proved it by listing all those teams Pitt has played. I did notice that in the last 10 years though that PSU's schedule is dotted with Northern Illinois, Lousiana Tech, Kent, Akron, UCF, Bowling Green, Toledo, S. Miss, and lots of games with their favorite, Temple. The point is that NOW PSU is backsliding in their non-conference scheduling to get those EASY home wins at the beginning of the season. Again, playing teams ranked an average of 88th in the Sagarin ranking is a preview of things to come at Penn State.

And you can go back to 1998 if you want. But it's the here and now. Having 4 I-aa teams ranked above you a year ago? Pathetic. I mean, when the school President goes to your home to get you to resign, what does that say about being disgruntled? Having fans clammoring for the coach to get out? What's that say?

I guess that if "NOW" PSU is doing this, we as PSU fans will have to get used to it, as you Pitt fans have done, with having to deal with "crappy" non-conference games. PSU has a solid A+ conference schedule to deal with, something Pitt can't claim.

Wanny's Paradox:
(1) We hate WVU; they are hillbillies who drink moonshine and have no teeth.
(2) We love WVU because they saved our conference from losing its BCS bid, and for filling up Steeler's stadium when we play them. Thanks WVU!

Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
I love I-AA football. But is it fair to combine these two areas (A and AA) when ranking teams? Appalachian State does not play a tougher schedule than Vanderbilt does. regardless of ASU's I-AA conference strength. What if Woffard somehow manages to be ranked #1 at the end of the season in the Sagarin rankings? Does that mean they are a better team than Miami if they win the I-A national title? The fact is, Moldo, that Penn State AND Pitt AND Notre Dame AND Washington State would probably beat those I-AA teams 10 out of 10 times. Sure there are upsets now and again, but they are very few and far between.
If Akron is ranked 400th in the Sagarin rankings, does that mean they did not get a new coach 2 years ago and started to make progress? No, it doesn't, because Akron did that. Criticise them all you want, but they are making progress and already won a conference title STRAIGHT-UP in a title game.

Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
Sagarin's ranking's are very sophisticated. Enough so that they appear every week in USA Today. Isn't that like the national newspaper???? If he says that 6 MAC teams were better last year than Akron, are we going to argue with that??? Do we know more than Jeff sagarin???? In 2004, if he says that James Madison was better than Penn State, should we argue with that???? Are you know basing your argument that Akron is a decent opponent because they are "Making progress"????
