Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
The two teams that play for the conference championship are two teams that won their division and earned the right to play in that game. If Northern Illinois beats Akron 60-0 in the regular season and then Akron beats NIU in the conference title game, maybe Northern Illinois wasn't that good to begin with.
Akron did what they need to do to get into the position to play for the whole title, and they won it. Whether or not NIU "deserved" it is irrelevant. When it came time to win the title, which they knew they would have to do in a title game, they lost the game.
I specifically remember last year when Moldo said "hey, Pitt played by the rules and did what they had to do to get the BCS nod."
Akron played by the rules of the conference and won the conference.
The title games are set up because there are too many teams in the conference to begin with. It eliminates controvery more than it adds to it, because chances are the two division winners didn't play eachother in the regular season. Who gets to claim the title then? Why not just have a game to decide it? My own personal opinion as of lately is that the game shouldn't be played if NIU already beat Akron in the regular season. However, if the Big Ten had a title system, and Iowa and PSU did NOT meet, then maybe they should just play for it.
If we can only go by what happens on the field... and it's how you finish...

No one is doubting that Akron won the MAC conference championship game. BUT, don't let that fool you into thinking they are great. Maybe NIU wasn't that good to begin with the 1st time they played Akron, BUT maybe Akron played OVER THEIR HEAD the 2nd time they played. It can work both ways. But when Sagarin ranked 6 MAC teams ahead of Akron in his final poll, what does that say?

Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
That says there's something wrong with the Sagarin rankings. Look... nobody said Akron was great. My whole argument has always been that it inherently looks better to play a conference champion than it does to play Buffalo. It gives the schedule more credibility, even if its just a little bit. Crushing UNT is better than crushing Florida International. That's all I'm saying. Penn State lucked out 2-3 years ago when they scheduled a bad Akron team and then Akron, 2 years later, ended up winning the MAC.
And for the record, Akron will test Penn State b/c of Getsy being good and b/c the secondary is new. That will be an excellent game for the secondary to have to play in.
I never said Akron was great. I stood up for them because they really are doing better. If that coach stays, they will be an annual conference contender. Especially now since Miami Ohio is under a new coach. Sometimes all it takes is for a team to get some confidence.
You guys should give the MAC some credit. Over the past couple of seasons, almost every team in the MAC has gone out and gotten a new coach. There's a lot of money in college football. They are trying to get better. That's a lot more than what we can say about some teams. Cut them a little bit of slack, you cannot expect a bad program to immediately start recruiting blue chip athletes. Akron went to their first bowl game in God knows how long and won their first conference championship. If there was no MAC title game, neither of those things would have happened. For somebody who says things like "what ever happened to playing football for the sake of the game", Moldo sure has been double talking quite a bit lately.
Whether or not there really ARE six teams better than Akron, which is untrue to begin with since the MAC had a down year compared to the recent past, it still remains that Akron won their conference straight up in a conference title game. You cannot penalize Akron for winning the dang thing, and you cannot put a 2-loss Ohio State team ahead of a one-loss PSU when both split the conference and PSU beat Ohio State in a regular season game. It's not Penn State's fault that they played the ACC champion and that team ended up with more losses than they should have had in the regular season. Last year, they would have beaten ND as bad as Ohio State did, and I really think FSU was a much, much better team than Notre Dame, based on EVERYTHING under the sun.

All I'll say is PSU schedules dregs: they do play Fila Int not N. Texas

Is this an unconscious effort to prove points I've been stressing to you last 2 weeks! PSU basically schedules no one with a snowballs chance, for an OOC game!

Perhaps a touche' with your Pitt almost beat Ohio dig; I remember just a few years back when Toledo came to H. Valley and put a clinic on you all!

Another classic example of Tae/avg. Nitwit fans pretzel logic! "That team had more losses than it should have" ??? I think I get it, do not look @ their record and fact they sort of backed into BCS game last week of the year! Of course since they played PSU they were better than anyone knows! Ahh TAE: it is what it is; you can't "ignore" their record! Remember you collectively set offensive fb back a few decades in that debacle! Their offense resembled yours of 04, horrible and it was easy for most fans to see why they struggled!

I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."
Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
You know after reading over W/E posts, I have to comment on the classless comments of a couple of my pals. First Pale:
"Akron is a tremendous team because they recruited Jose (I might even attend a class or 2) Cruz, even if he didn't play.''
Then TAE can't resist: "Pale Rider makes an excellent point about The Dominator Jose Cruz."
Should I be surprised by these cheapshots?? No, I think you are that ignorant! Here is a kid from Kernville, and I would not get into personal and or family stuff out of respect for privacy, but he garners a full scholarship to a DI school and his intelligence is questioned!! His test scores and such made him not eligible so he and coaches had him work out and concentrate on grades! Nice attending class dig...how in the he!! do you know his attendance @ Akron? Fact is he is maintaining eligibility and walked on the hoop team! Yea, a kid out Kernville participating in two DI varsity sports and working to capacity academically. Will he receive a Rhodes scholarship? I don't think so but his accomplishments should be applauded not mocked! There is more I would like to print but I will not lower myself to your level!

Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
My only gripe against Cruz was how overrated he was a HS player in both football and basketball. I dont knwo anything about the kid. I called him the Dominator as sarcasm because he never did much. 6 catches one season, right? Best TE in the state? Come on now.
Regardless of the "dreg" level two years ago, Akron won the MAC last season. Our OOC schedule has a BCS team and a conference champion.
I just said "more losses than they should" because they qualified for a BCS bid. No BCS committee wants a team with 4-5 losses.
Say what you want about FSU: they beat the 3 best teams on their schedule last season. That program will always win games based on athleticism alone because of the great players they get. Go look at their classes even through these down years. Those kids will win games even when the coaching sucks, and people have been calling for that OC's head for 3 years now. Too bad he's Bobby's kid!

This is a text-book defense mechanism and general slight: never personalize those you fear; or use other references if it makes you look better! Translation: a BCS team = ND who we've been ripping for over a week now and you only schedule every 20 yrs or so!
a conf champ = Akron who you admit was way down when psu scheduled!

Joe should send Bobby a gift for letting his son run that joke of an offense 'cause if anyone other than that nitwit was coordinating all those athletes you would have had an L and yet another under-achieving season! (sorry about borrowing/or using out of context the nitwit term)

Re: Congratulations to Greg Lee on 1st Rd Selection
Take the OOC thing for whats its worth: conference champ and BCS team. Inherently better than Buffalo and Air Farce.
With that FSU logic, every team in America should send Bobby Bowden a gift EVERY year, because with that talent they should win the national title on a yearly basis. Too bad so sad!
