ROETHLISBERGER WRECKS
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that Steelers quarterback Ben Roetlisberger has been injured in a motorcycle accident near the 10th Street Bridge in Pittsburgh.
(As of 12:10 p.m. EDT, the Tribune-Review's web site had crashed, apparently due to the enormous spike in traffic.)
The accident occurred at 11:37 a.m. He was not wearing a helmet.
Per WTAE-TV, Roethlisberger has been taken to the trauma unit at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. There are no specifics as to his condition.
A witness to the aftermath of the accident told WTAE at 12:11 p.m. that Roethlisberger was alert and talking to paramedics, but there was "blood everywhere." The witness also said that Roethlisberger was wearing a neck collar.
Stay tuned.

Wow, this is horrible horrible news. It sounds like a horrific accident I just hope he is alright and makes a full recovery and not just from a Steeler Fan standpoint. It is always bad news when you hear about injuries like this.

Smart move riding without a helment and being one of the best pro athletes. Maybe he should've listened to Bradshaw when he told him to ride it when he retires, but that's right the Steelers have turned into the bad boys now. I'm sure the Rooneys are very happy once again.

Wow all this stress now, compounded by that Santonio Holmes incident, right?
The fact of the matter is that the NFL players association is probably never going to allow the league to be able to put manadatory no-motorcycle clauses into contracts like they tried after Winslow got hurt. The woman pulled out in front of him, the wreck was not his fault. He wasn't doing wheelies in a parking lot.

Now it seems as if there are conflicting reports about his knees....
Watched Stan Savaran Sporsbeat this evening, where they said his knees were inuured...
WTAE-TV reports "severe injures to both his knees"
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/new ... etail.html
KDKA has reported knees as "ok".... (watched it).
Jaw, teeth, etc is one thing, but I think it's the knees to be most concerned, given that serious spinal injury, brain injury has been elimitated...
If the woman who ran into him truly was at fault, I hope that the media has the deceny to at least not release her name to the public.... Man...remember that guy who interfeared at the Cubs game a few years ago, costing them a trip to the Series (or was it NLCS?)....that could get ugly...

the wreck was not his fault.
The guy was riding a motorcycle without a license. Explain to me how it wasn't his fault. I do believe anything that you do without a license makes it your fault. Maybe it's different where you're from, TAE.

Re: Big Ben wrecks motorcycle
Roethlisberger owns a couple cycles and doesn't have a license? This is the first I've heard of this claim.
Either way, the woman pulled out in front of him. License or not, she caused the accident. If he was driving like an idiot, thats a different story. Yeah, he probably should have worn a helmet, but once again, helmet or not, he didnt cause the accident. It would have been less severe, but he still would have gotten in a wreck.

Re: Big Ben wrecks motorcycle
There is a story on ESPN.com about the possibility of him not having a license. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to have a PA motorcycle license for 2 years to exercise the right to ride helmetless? I'm not sure, but I think that was part of the law.

Re: Big Ben wrecks motorcycle
A couple of factors to consider. First is state of residency. Ben still could be a licensed Ohio driver. If not and he has declared himself a Pa resident/driver then you have more issues. In Pa one must obtain a permit via written test for motorcycle operation then can take driving test on motorcycle whenever within a one year period. And yes oar, you must be licensed for 2 yrs prior to driving helmetless!
