It's one thing to be upset by somebody on the last play of the game and lose 25-21 or something. Pitt couldn't even move the ball, in 4 quarters, against the worst depth chart in a conference that is non-BCS and isn't the Fun Belt. That's gonna leave a mark.

Here's the problem with recruiting Ditto to PSU. Right now, PSU has 13 underclassmen listed as WR's and TE's on their roster. And earlier this year, some Weisenheimer on this site told everyone that the Brackett kid from New Jersey who signed with PSU as a QB in February was going to be switched to tight end. That'll make FOURTEEN. With only 9 juniors on this years squad, and only about 9 scholarships left for February 2007, that's 18 scholarships left for PSU in the NEXT TWO YEARS!!!! Hey, keep them wide receivers and tight ends coming. After all, PSU has 6 QB's on scholarship. Guess they all need someone to practice with.

Who should they be recruiting? Penn State just received a verbal from a punter from Michigan. YES, A PUNTER!!!!!! According to FightOnState, PSU only has 13 scholarships to give in Feb 2007, and 8 in 2008. They now have given about half of there alotment for this upcoming year. And who have they GOTTEN??????? More receivers??? And what about that vaunted PSU high powered offense with Morelli and company? Are they even going to need to punt in the next 2 years???? Why they'll be scoring and making first downs without much effort, right? I think this PSU recruiting class is in deep doo-doo.

First of all, he's a K/P, not just a Punter. Secondly, you only go after those kids every couple of years. Kapinos is graduating. Thirdly, the kid is from Michigan. That's two Michigan kids PSU stole. You should be glad that someone in PA is getting trying to get back at UM for all the PA kids they have been stealing. We got a cornerback today too. The only thing I can really think of off hand that they haven't recruited in the past 2-3 years is a center.

I don't know why this is such a dumb move for Penn State.

It's dumb because 1) he kicks off and punts. He is NOT the placekicker that schools desire for field goals and extra points. 2) He had NO other offers from any other Big Ten school. So who else wanted him? He jumped at the first offer given to him 3) PSU has another punter on their roster who is backing up Karpinos right now 4) With only 13 scholarships to give this year, getting a punter is NOT a priority for PSU at this time. It was a dumb move. And who cares where he is from. What's the Big Deal about getting a kid from Michigan?

And while we're at it, then what's the big deal about getting a kid from any place, especially the WPIAL? Wanny sure thinks location is a big deal. Location, location, location. A hard concept for Pitt fans to grasp considering any team who wants to can cherry pick talent right out of their backyard.

Barclay, Ditto, Wis, Sukay, Moye, Paskorz, Gradkowski....Wanny is/was after all of them bigtime, and all of them will tell Wanny to sod off.

PSU only keeps one kicker and one punter on the roster as scholarship players. Kapinos has the Punting scholarship and does the punting duties. Kelly(a sophmore) does the kicking (PK/Koff). The other kid behind Kapinos is a walk on and won't get anything for being there until he gains the full position. But since they have this kid coming in accepting an offer, i doubt you'll see any of him at all.

Because kids are more and more starting to recruit other kids. Getting players from MI opens up MI to Penn State. Maybe that punter behind Kapinos sucks. So when Kapinos leaves, then what? I dont think its dumb for the reasons of where he is from, and the fact you only go after a punter/kicker every couple of years. Penn State's recruiting this year is just fine, Moldo. I appreciate your worrying, though.
