vman....................since you seem to be in-the-know, are you aware of one of the main reasons that KH case was not pursued any further than the district level?

Here are some facts to try on for size. Don't give too much credit for McCort "assisting" in the KH case. They had a lot more at stake then they let on.

Something was discovered about the Johnstown Parochial athletic system that has gone on for the past 10-15 years and maybe longer.

Over the years, a dozen or so parochial athletes have been "moved up" as 6th graders to participate on their school's 7th or 8th grade teams. This gave them 14 semesters of interscholastic athletics. There are also a handful of parochial athletes besides KH that repeated 7th or 8th grade.

Before anyone turns this post into an anti-McCort post, keep in mind that some of these athletes have gone on to compete for their local public school.

Uhh, he won.... no need to pursue further! No "main reason"! The case was non-adversarial! And despite your 6th graders playing up concern, it had nothing to do with the KH situation!

I say go for it, let's turn them all in; dig up past records, check the status of all present grade schoolers, and expose the parochial system for all their cheating, covering, recruiting, etc....does that fit?

I still have 2 unanswered questions! How was KH granted another year and how was AW allowed to participate in any athletics @ JHS, when he only earned 1 credit in 2 full school years??

What I stated previously was fact! BM's AD assured Jtwn they had not & would not file against KH & advised the Jtwn AD to take case before local committee to "head off" any possible action by others! Paint it any way you wish!

I know KH won his case. I am saying the reason nobody appealed the case to the PIAA is that some people may not have wanted any other eligibility issues coming up.

There is no need to dig up anything on the parochial system, I guarantee anyone that was moved up and whoever moved them up had absolutely no knowledge of the PIAA rules. Just like KH being held back.

I don't doubt for one minute that KH was held back for athletic purposes. I also believe that his family received bad advice from an administrator that should have known the rules pertaining to KH's eligibility.

As for AW and him participating while earning one credit. I believe it was just his sophomore year at Johnstown that he earned the one credit. I believe he was declared academically ineligible by the school and did not participate during the second semester.

I just think people are comparing apples and oranges. KH got an additional year of 7th grade basketball while in good academic standing. McCort is trying to get AW an additional season of high school athletics where he was in poor academic standing in parts of it.

Vman, please the question that htp brought up earlier. Why is there an appeal at all? AW did not miss a season of competition. He continued to participate in athletics. So what are they appealing?

I will assume you are talking of this quote from htp: "My only argument, is that the young man did not lose a year of athletics, so why the appeal for an extra year?"

At issue is the rule of 8 semesters after 8th grade to compete! No such thing actually as "losing a yr of athletics" In short, you have 4 yrs to play sports!

Wrong! I'm telling you part of my involvement was record review and the total transcript record for 2 yrs. revealed 1 credit earned (or one class passed in 2 years!)

I disagree, it is very much apples to apples...there exist no exemption/waiver for a student in good academic standing! If you think about it, does it not wreak of athletic intentionality if one is a standout athlete & honor student then held back??

vman......thanks for clearing some things up.

I just can't see how they are appealing for the kid to have a 5th year of high school athletics.

If they are worried about his welfare, fine, I agree 100%. Just have his "sponsor" write the check to Kiski Prep instead of McCort. Now everyone is happy. The young man continues to play sports and doesn't jeapordize his college chances, and he continues to receive his private education.

Heaven and Hoops: Great solution to the problem. Of course is his "sponsor" interested in AW, or more interested in BM?

Of course Molddy has to turn this into how can one make BM look bad or how to throw dirt on someone's name.
This has to be the 4th time on the subject of this kid; his family actually took him to BM on the advise of a young kid in the neighborhood. When the gentleman in question found out about the entire situation(home and academic standing, he offered help) This gentlemen never did & still does not have any connection to BM. But this concept of helping a fellow human being, who happened to be a struggling youngster, is too much for your feeble minded, hate BM orientation to understand/process! You are pitiful!

Willthe sponsor pay his way to McCort if he is ruled ineligible for sports? That's all I ask. If he does, wonderful. If he doesn't, then did he have an agenda? Why is that pitiful? The proof is in the pudding.
