A Birdie Said
Re: A Birdie Said
Thanks for the info! I can hear it all now they didn't want BC in the old Appalachian Conf when it got changed over they complained about BC getting the points for playing AA and AAA and had a advantage over other A teams come playoff time. Now I wonder whats going to be said when its 60-0 at halftime. God Bless to all!!!!!!!!!!
Re: A Birdie Said
Well Kut11chy, Don't want to open can of worms but my birdy heard that an early issue encountered was resistance of certain A schools to be paired with BC &/or BG! My hope is that best scenario for all teams is reached!!!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."
Re: A Birdie Said
I don't think its up to them is it? Sure BC has a great program , but have they won a state championship NO so that means last year 8 other teams were better then BC. These teams that don't want them in this don't realize once they get in the playoffs they will have to play BC or even better teams. That shows many of the teams around are happy just making the playoffs. just let them in and try harder, BC's great program can't last forever or can it. God Bless.
Re: A Birdie Said
The breakdown for A looks like so:
Section 1
Blairsville
United
Saltsburg
Homer Center
Ligonier Valley
Laurel Valley
Section 2
Bishop Carroll
Bishop Guilfoyle
Ferndale
Purchase Line
Penns Manor
Northern Cambria
Section 3
Glendale
Claysburg-Kimmel
Williamsburg
Portage
Blacklick Valley
Conemaugh Valley
Section 4
Bellwood-Antis
Juniata Valley
Southern Huntingdon
Moshannon Valley
Mount Union
West Branch
Looks to me like some people mattered and some didn't. I don't think it would have been possible for anyone to screw Ferndale anymore than the D-6 football subcommitee did. This is to take effect for the 2007 football season.
Something that you might not initially notice: With a 16 team playoff this makes it possible to be 2-7 and make the playoffs based on the section breakdown. If the playoff seeds are not determined by section, then why do we even have them being put in place. I don't know? Just an intriguing point I identified.
Congratulations Forest Hills and Richland, you don't have to play Carroll anymore. Good work!

Re: A Birdie Said
I don't quite understand this post... I believe that Forest Hills has typically beaten BC over the past few years... Does anyone know the records since BC was tossed out of the Appalachian Conference?Congratulations Forest Hills and Richland, you don't have to play Carroll anymore. Good work!
I think Richland has played BC down to the wire a few times the last couple of years. I believe Crookshank had to work some magic at the end of a game a few years back just to squeak out a win. I am sure that the kids at Richland would be happy to play BC in a few years when both schools will be Single A... It certainly would be a fairer schedule than playing the best of single A, Double A, and Triple A. This past season any of the LHAC's 2-7 or 3-6 teams would have beaten Ridge or M. Center. The system is just screwed up...
I would like to see McCort stay in Single A and play BC for the title. According to the PIAA site, there enrollment would permit this. It would also allow for the catholic schools to revive the old "Bishops Trophy" from years ago...
Just looking at the Single A proposal, it appears that D6 placed 2 strong teams, 2 average teams, and 2 below average teams in each section. This would enable all teams to have an opportunity to make the playoffs since 4 of the 6 from each section advance...
Any news on expansion of the WestPAC, Heritage, LHAC.... When will Blairsville/Saltsburg merge, Ligonier/Laurel Valley merge and Indiana, Hollidaysburg, and BG enter the LHAC??? Lots of questions to be answered....
How bout college recruiting? Any word on any kids getting offers...
Re: A Birdie Said
Forest Hills is 3-1 against BC since they joined the LHAC. Too bad we can't keep playing them.
Re: A Birdie Said
Would not it make more sense to have BG and BC in Section 3? CV and Blacklick Valley would take their place in Section 2. That makes much more sense geographically. But when has the PIAA made sense?
One of the reasons and possibly the main reason that the ADs didn't vote for this proposal is that it will now cause them to work to complete their schedules. When schedules are set as they are now, it is a matter of getting officials, etc. Now with 6 teams per section scheduling becomes a priority. It will be more work for the ADs but with 3 open dates, it should allow teams to maintain some rivalries. I like this idea but teams like Penns Manor and Ferndale really got a rough draw.
Re: A Birdie Said
or at least switch glendale and ferndale, that would make geographical sense. by the way, kutch, I can tell you there was at least one or two schools that voted to keep BC in the new heritage from the old appal. conference. they enjoyed the good competition. over the past 6 years it has snowballed into "all" of those teams wanted BC out, but this was not true.
