News & Notes from around District # 5/ 6
State Rankings:
Below are the members of Districts # 5 and #6 that have been mentioned in the state rankings done by both the Harrisburg Patriot-News and the Pennsylvania Football News:

Week Three Games to Watch
Forest Hills at Bedford
This is the premier game in the LHAC this week as that conference gets into the nitty gritty by starting section play. Don Bailey and the Rangers are looking to rebound from that tough loss to McCort last week. Wes Swaim has the luxury of a 2-0 team that has a great home field advantage. Travis Rearick will look to go through the air with FH while Jesse Feaster will be the workhorse on the ground for the Bisons.
Windber at Conemaugh Valley
Highly anticipated match-up between these two WestPAC unbeatens. Coach DeMarco's Ramblers will try to do what no one else has done yet this young season: contain Robert Gunby. As he goes, the Jays go. If you have nothing to do Saturday afternoon, make the trip to Tom Yewcic Stadium to see this one. Sidenote: CV has not beaten Windber since 1996. I'm sure that will be in the backs of the minds of the players, coaches, parents and fans.
Laurel Valley at United
This game goes back to the days of the old Appalachian Conference and the teams are just as intense as ever. Jerry Page and the LV Rams will have their hands full with a tough, upstart United Lions squad.
Penn Cambria at Central Cambria
Panthers and Red Devils in the battle for the Goal Post Trophy. PC coming off a drubbing of Bishop Carroll but don't look for them to look past this rivarly game. Holsberger and the Panther O-Line will control the game and he'll have at least 150 yards on the ground. CC was out of their element against Johnstown a week ago and probably will be in the same boat against PC. The Goal Post Trophy will stay right were it now for another year, in Coach Ernie Fetzer's office!
U.P.J. Update:
I know it's been all high school football, 24/7 around here lately, but I'm going to spend a brief period of time going over the fall sports season of UPJ.
There are many area athletes competing for the Mountain Cats' various programs this fall.
Men's Soccer
The Men's Soccer team is 1-2. Arik Misler is a sophomore forward that graduated from Westmont Hilltop. He has two goals, both scored in a game against Lancaster Bible College, on the season.
Women's Soccer
The Women's Soccer team is 2-1. Kellie Stevens is a senior forward/midfielder that hails from Conemaugh Township. She scored 2 goals in a game against Point Park University earlier this season. Another local on the UPJ squad is Katie Croyle, a defender. This freshman comes to the Johnstown campus via Huntingdon High School
Women's Volleyball
This team is 4-3 and loaded with local talent:
Jessica Hmel (Penn Cambria)
Karah Wertz (Chestnut Ridge)
Ashley Brant (Richland)
Kelly Miller (North Star)
Abbey Hrescak (Richland)
Kim Shubra (Penns Manor)
Katie Shadron (Ligonier Valley)
Megan Lasut (Shade)
Erin Sines (Meyersdale)
Megan Kulish (Central Cambria)
Kayla Lape (Chestnut Ridge)
Nicole Hauser (Penns Manor)
Abby Gearhart (Forest Hills)
Statistically, Hrescak (65), Lasut (62) and Lape (50) lead the squad in kills while Brant (128), Hrescak (92) and Gearhart (91) are leaders in digs.
