District #5 /6 teams that are making the grade, thus far ??
Re: District #5 /6 teams that are making the grade, thus far
TBone,
I totally agree with you on your first point. The WPIAL is much better than the LHAC is and ever will be. No one can deny that. But then again, I believe the forum index says "LH Football", as in Laurel Highlands. If this was a Pittsburgh website and someone came went on and ranked Johnstown ahead of Gateway because Johnstown is 5-0 and Gateway has 2 losses so far, I would reply back and say that this is not true.
Secondly, your point on combining a AA LH conference and a AAA WPIAL conference would be a great idea -- if you are evalutating the overall strength of each team. There would be no undefeated, 1 loss, or even 2 loss teams from the LH then. We would truly see how the LHAC stacks up against the WPIAL. But this goes the other way also. If the single A LH schools were put in a conference with AA LH schools, there would be no undefeated or 1 loss teams from single A. I would love to see this happen, because then we could see how these teams stack up against each other. We'd see how well Portage plays against Forest Hills, or how good Windber does against McCort. Then we'd never even have this argument in the first place. That would be the ultimate solution to this.
Thirdly, you are probably totally right about BC and Blairsville. I never watched any of the games, so yes, my point about this was a poor one. I'll admit my mistake on this one. I was just trying to say that BC beat Blairsville every time, and the added exaggeration was inaccurate and not needed.
Fourth, it may have sounded like I was picking on those aforementioned players, but I did not intend it to be a malicious statement or to be taken personal in any way. I named Gunby and Highberger as examples to prove my point, and I was not trying to take a verbal cheap shot at them. I like seeing kids in our area do well, as Gunby and Highberger have done and are doing. It's good for them and it's good for our area. So in no way am I deliberately trying to hate on these players. I'm sorry if it sounded like I did.
Lastly, the whole reason I made my previous post was because of the title of the section -- "District 5 and 6 teams that are making the grade thus far." It's only logical that A teams would be overmatched against AA teams. That's why they made these classifications in the first place. TBone, you said "Of course the Heritage and WestPAC are not as good as the LH." You are basically proving my point with that statement. My original point was that it was an injustice to the AA LHAC teams that play in a tougher conference that the A teams that play in "weaker" conferences were ranked ahead of them. I was upset at the fact that some WestPAC/Heritage teams were ranked ahead of LHAC teams just because of LHAC teams' inferior records. Tell me this: if Meyersdale or Conemaugh Valley (JUST examples, NOT meant to pick on) played a schedule of McCort, Somerset, Forest Hills, Penn Cambria, and Central Cambria (as Bedford has), I say that they may get at most one win (possibly Somerset). Bedford is 3-2. And yet Bedford is ranked behind both of those two teams. On the flipside, if Bedford played CV's schedule, I would have no doubts in saying that they'd be undefeated. This all reitterates my point that this forum's subject is about D5/D6 teams. Then they are broken down further into two divisions: A and AA, AAA and AAAA. Therefore, should it not be that all the AA teams that are better than the A teams be ranked ahead of them? TBone, you said that "You are comparing apples to oranges." Well Mr. TBone, we are indeed comparing apples to oranges in this forum. The rankings are for A/AA teams in D5/D6. That means that LHAC, WestPAC, and Heritage teams all fall in this category. Thus, they are being compared.
This is my opinion, posted on a website full of opinions. You my like it, you may hate it, you may not care. And any of those is fine. But I'm going to fight for verbal respect where I think it's due.
But now I will rest. My fingers hurt.

Re: District #5 /6 teams that are making the grade, thus far
Good posts all around, i like the "arguments"... however, we are talking about high school football...theres nothing better than kids going out to represent their schools and playing for the love of the game...that is the true reason everyone that does love hs football even watches it...thats y college players come back to coach their high schools...its truely special...and i love talking about hs football and arguing points and such, but when it comes down to it...when ur sittin in the bleachers on the 50 watching the opening kickoff...all that goes out the window...its awesome...
and everyone here knows the contenders and the pretenders in D5/6....sorry i did mean to put a damper on this convo...just because theres always someone out there better and stronger and faster...if you compare your own standards to yourself, then only you truely know where you stand...

TBone,
Amen to that. I know it's easy to miss something like that (btw, it was on the first page). And yes, we probably are more in agreement than not.
Dfense,
I gotta agree with you too. There's nothing like playing in or watching a Friday night high school football game. Watching talented players is one thing, but watching players who play with that special passion and love of the game is very refreshing. And especially when rivals meet, you can just throw out the records, the classifications, and the rankings. It doesn't matter what you did before. Any team can beat any other team on any given Friday. And as the saying goes, "that's why they play the game." And that's why I love it.
