Re: Windber vs. Portage

I forgot to mention my prediction...

Windber will win the game because they have tradition on their side and they are the better team this year. Last year, Portage was the better team by 3 scores (in my opinion). The result of last years' contest was an overtime win for Portage. It won't go to OT this year as Windber will take care of the Stangs in regulation. The Wing-T will not catch the Ramblers off guard - they're just too disciplined. This will be the difference in the game, as Portage will only hit the endzone late.

My point here is that Windber is playing exactly where they should - in an "A" conference. The same holds true for McCort - the LHAC is a great fit for them.[/quote]

Would not debate that LH is right fit for BM....but with BM being A (again for like 4 of last 8 years) & Windber being right @ AA cut-off; one would surmise that Windber is presently bigger than BM! And as noted Windber would be bigger than BC & just a tad smaller than Richland & Westy(small AA schools)..... so why not quit hiding in West Pac?

Heard a Rizzo's rumor, a few yrs ago, related to Windber being almost exactly @ AA designation that one of the fellas actually went to Sidman for some culinary lessons.....it was a class on 'cooking the books'.

From what I remember Windber held its own when playing Bedford back in the 80's (both were AA at the time). I know that was a while ago, but I wouldn't be so quick to discount them in the LHAC. It would not be a 'gimme' game.

As for this week, I'll take the Ramblers.

first of all, BM is AA. Second, why is this argument always directed at Windber? Sure, Windber is a large A school, but, every class has to have large schools because if the largest schools in each class had to "stop hiding", the entire class sytem would be pointless. And if it's because of Windber's being at the top of the heap every year, why is Portage almost never told to "stop hiding?" They are also at the top every year. I, personally, am tired of hearing about how Windber, just because it is a larger school in its class, should move up. It is a stupid argument. The classes and conferences are made for a reason.

vman,

Your post is lacking in fact and is full of what you would like to believe is the truth! According to the PIAA website (http://www.piaa.org) the range for Class A football is 1-197 male students in grades 9 thru 11 for the school years 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. According to the same website Windber's male enrollment is 169, hardly what a reasonable person would consider right at the AA cutoff. According to the PIAA website Bishop McCort's male enrollment is 189, or 20 more than Windber. So much for surmising that Windber is bigger! You did get one thing correct, Bishop Carroll's male enrollment is 100, which obviously makes Windber bigger. As for Richland and Westmont, you missed drastically on those two also. Richland's male enrollment is 209, which is 40 more (24%) than Windber while Westmont's male enrollment is 268, which is 99 more (59%) than Windber, both of which hardly classify as a "tad" bigger than Windber! By the way, before you bash Windber you should do some research to understand how they came to be in the WestPAC, formerly the Appalachian Conference, after participating, successfully I might add, in the Mountain Conference (football) and the Tri-County League (basketball). I think you will find that they are hiding from no one.

As for you repeating a rumor, this just adds all the more credibility to your post!
Everything looks easy from where you're sitting!

Again I was responding to:

And I was off -a bit- in the numbers...I did preface that remark & was going from my head but my point remains... Windber & BM are presently only 20 boys apart & with Windbers storied past why wouldn't they wish to play in the LH against tougher competition? I'm saying they could coompete!

Re. the #s- they go up every 2 yrs- & a Windber admin. had told me they were like 2 or 3 males from AA; I believe that was in '02(could have been '04) so I assumed thay were still close to cutoff...sorry!
