History Repeating Itself... Again

Post by vman »

Just being objective here....been trying to tell ya!

Now if all the nitters had paid attn weeks ago when some proclaimed ND 'sucked' or we'll definitely beat them. Well Vman said a ND victory was a lock & gave recent history to prove it!

One only had to look at big games since 2000!

In 2000 UPS lost to USC, Toledo (10-1), Pitt (7-5), Mich & Ohio St. while beating one team with a winning record - Purdue 22-20 in Beave stad..

In 2001 Penn State lost to Miami, Wisc, Iowa, Mich, Illinois but beat two teams with winning records both 7-5 OSU & MSU.

IN '02 UPS squeeked out a home win vs (7-5) UCF, @ the Beave, 27-24
also beat Wisc & Va who had winning records but lost to Iowa, Michigan Ohio State & Auburn (9-4)

03 was a good year, you lost to every team you played with a winning record: Boston College (8-5) L 14 27, Nebraska (10-3) L 10 18 ,Minnesota (10-3) L 14 20, Wisconsin (7-6) L 23 30, Purdue (9-4) L 14 28, Iowa (10-3) L 14 26, Ohio State (11-2) L 20 21, Michigan State (8-5) L 10 41

That was 0 for 8 that year vs teams with winning records!

Now in '04 thank goodness for Akron, who @ 6-5 was one game above 500!
auhh, every other team with winning record you lost to:Boston College (9-3) L 7-21, Wisconsin (9-3) L 3 16, Minnesota (7-5) L 7 16, Purdue (7-5) L 13 20, Iowa (10-2) L 4 6, Ohio State (8-4) L 10 21, You couldn't even beat at the time below 500 Northwestern (6-6) L 7 14!

Now in '05 guess what, you played one big game on the road Mich...and you lost!

In summary, there are 37 undeniable big games UPS played in last 5 years...Total record in above mentioned contest....30 Big Nitwit losses against 7 wins.....

Oh (I forgot) make that 31 loses now vs 7 wins...and you honestly thought you were going to beat the IRISH in S Bend....Vman tried to warn you all...history repeats itself!

Then I tried to cushion you for the OSU game!

Honestly I have to agree with Coach & Opie here,

UPS is certainly not as bad as they played this week (41-3 before CW called off the dogs) and will win their share this year; particularly since you already lost to your only real ooc opponent.
The qb actually looks good overall esp. considering his inexperience but he certainly looked the Moronelli part on that option....bad decision!
There is plenty of talent @ wr & rb....o-line & secondary will get better!

Too bad OSU is on the road this year, you know what that means - remember your history- you haven't beat a ranked team on the road for 4 years - @ Wisconsin (8-6 final record) W 34 31; you lost @ higher ranked OSU, Mich & Iowa that yr...your previous win vs a ranked team on the road was in 1999! So since 1999, one win in 6 yrs. vs a ranked opponent on the road! Let me see, who should win in Columbus?
___________________________________________________________

Then there was Michigan, an undefeated, ranked opponent this well into the seaon .......the outcome was never in doubt!

If my Math is correct that is like 33 losses out of last 40 Big games UPS has played.....all the complaining about weak ooc games has finally come clear to me.....if you lose over 75% of tough games you need to schedule
Temple, Buffalo, Fla Int., E Mich, C Mich., Kent St., etc...

Penn State lost to the 3 best teams in the country and played well enough to win in 2 of those games. The offense is garbage. And that ND game was the worst game PSU has played in a decade.

What did I say before Saturday? The real question was not whether they could win, it was what position will the offense put the defense in? And they STILL had a chance to win the game at the end. Talk all the trash you want, but it means a lot when the head coach of the opposing team (whom you are battling w/ over recruits) comes out after the game and says how good the defense really is.

As of now PSU's strength of schedule is 2nd in the nation. They have played 3 teams that were in the TOP 4 nationally when they played them. Unfortunately they ran into a buzzsaw a few times this year playing 3 teams that are probably good enough to win a national championship.

I know another team in PA that as of right now has 0 teams that they've played who are .500 at this point and have a SOS that is 110th in the country.
Talk all the trash you want
Not talking any trash, just stating the facts....as I did pre-season & told you Irish would whip you (it was a lock)...then stated your road record in last 6 yrs to predict OSU outcome...another L ....then you had home game vs Mich (who was without their top play maker)...another L...
You played 3 good teams & lost all 3.... again....think about it... it's 75% of the time in recent yrs.!!
As of now PSU's strength of schedule is 2nd in the nation.
Now you play Temple, Illini, Indiana etc...watch SOS plummet!
another team in PA that as of right now have a SOS that is 110th in the country.
And Pitt plays 2 top 10 teams (WVU & Louisvle.) & a top 20 team this week Rutgers...watch their SOS rise, along with their national ranking.

Watch this week >>> Pitt will do something you all do about 1 in 4 attempts >>> beat a ranked team!!!

Vman, you and I could go out there against those teams and do as well as Palko and Kinder have. There's a reason why Pitt is 6-1 and still not in the top 25.

Pitt had hoped UVA and Toledo would be where they normally are, which is above 500 and a bowl eligible team, at least. Even after last year, it looked swell to have UCF on the schedule. I'm not blaming Pitt for how piss-poor their schedule turned out to be this season, but I know a lot of Pitt fans who are jumping up and down w/ their hands down their pants because Pitt only has 1 loss (best record since the 70's, right?) too bad there's teams in District 5 who would challenge Virginia and Toledo this season.

Rutgers. Vman says Pitt is gonna beat them. What have we learned from history? Knucklehead Paul Rhodes is STILL the d-coordinator at Pitt, and showed his worth AGAIN against Michigan State. What in God's name makes you think that they'll do better against one of the top runners in the nation (which means the line is good) and a QB who is formidable? The Rutgers D is also stout. Plus, Rutgers still has Brian Leonard, a sure 1st round pick because of his strength and athleticism. No way in Hell would I lay any money on Pitt's defense after what we saw in the past and what we saw against the only decent team they played so far. And "decent" is even a stretch, since they lost to Illinois. My prediction is the same as before: Neither Pitt nor PSU will win 1 game this year they shouldn't win.

Rutgers may be ranked, but they aren't ND, OSU, or Mich...

Just remember something. Every good player on Notre Dame's team is a Senior. The shoe is on the other foot next year. Jimmy Clausen's Freshman orientation starts in Happy Valley against a veteran secondary. Good luck, kiddo, and get a haircut.

Temple and Illinois. Not Indiana. They still have to go to Madison to play the Badgers yet this year too along with a trip to Purdue and finish the year with a game at home vs. a team that physically embarassed Pitt in the 2nd half @ Heinz field this year, then went on to lose to Illinois.

2 top 10 squads and one in the top 20 really does = 3 teams in the top 4 at the time of the game!? Highly doubtful, nice spin attempt though.

Michie State did handle Pitt and then lost to Illinois.....not the same team so don't use that reference. Something happened to that team in the fourth Qtr. vs N.Dame and they haven't been the same since.

Remember, they were handling ND for 3 Qtrs too before they fell apart for good.

I think AE was all over this earlier in the month and he called it perfectly....Michie State = fast out of the gate/slow finisher and they hit the wall late in the ND game.

Do you really think Illinois would beat ND or Pitt????????

Penn St. will hammer a limping to the finish line Spartan squad in mid-Nov and it will in no way resemble the same team that came back to beat Pitt or led and handled ND for 3 Qtrs.

Hardest team to play in the nation in the beginning of the season. Thats why I try to stay away from the MSU - Illinois game when ripping on Pitt.

Morelli is unfortunately clearly to play this week. Any of you like betting money, take the under.
