Ancient I totally agree with your second paragraph. But, why do you think that Urban Meyer is a "liar" and "sell-out". I'm just wandering because I've only ever good things about him and he has good morales and what not. Apparently you have heard different than me.

but aren't there years in college basketball where the two best teams in the country are from the best conference? yes, there's a playoff, but doesn't it happen that way? realistically, other than it's never been done like that, why couldn't that also happen in football?

Michigan would definitely have an better chance if they played Ohio St. again and I would also like to be the previous loser if I were the coach going into that game, but would morale and adjustments be enough to take the rematch? Possibly, but just going from the recent historical trend between the two I still think Smith and company are too much for Michigan. It would be a good and entertaining game though, that much Im sure of.

The good thing about this whole situation is that there are a handful of games that will go along way to determine who should get that second spot. Because of that, I think things will play out and the second best team will emerge. The only guideline I will stick too and go by is that a head-to-head loss will trump all other factors. With that said, ND has no shot at that spot no matter what and if USC wins out Arkansas will have no shot as well, even if they win out. In my opinion I just think a head-to-head matchup should carry the most weight if two teams end up with one loss.

Deep Thought, Urban Meyer lied to Bowling Green, and also lied to Utah. When his name started getting tossed around for the Michigan and Florida and Notre Dame job, Utah built a huge practice facility that is basically state of the art. He assured the university that he and his family loved Utah and he was not leaving. Then he basically told UF, UM, and ND that he was going to be their next coach. When Meyer was in his first season at Utah, I thought he was the smartest coach in the country. I was really on his bandwagon, and was happy when he won a BCS game the following season (or 2 later, I forget). Then when he pulled that crap in Utah I started hoping that the Gators lose every game by 100 points.

TAE, I'm going to agree with you on a couple accounts. First, Urban M. is as sleazy as most cut throat operators in D1 fb. And 2ndly, his vioiln playing performance of how it would be a travesty if his Gators won the SEC & did not get invite to NC game did not affect/impress me.
I am not an SEC basher & yr. in yr. out they may well be the best conf.!
Likewise Fla. has had some great teams in recent yrs.....I don't think either holds true this yr.! Fla beat Tenn. by 1, lost to Auburn by 10 (not a great Auburn team), beat Vandy by 6, S. Car. by 1, & Geo.(with it's worst team in a couple decades) by 7.

Where I'm going to disagree with you is that I think the winner of USC/ND could get that special invite. USC did lose to an unranked team but did lay 50 on Ark. & a win over highly ranked ND may do the trick.
ND did lose to Mich.(early in yr.) but a win over UCS, on the road???
Plus, Mich. did allow over 500 yds. to OSU. All factors to be considered.

Bottom line - I would prefer USC/ND victor or Mich. however, over SEC winner!
