As a longtime Nittany Lion fan and supporter, I thought I had seen the worst of Paterno's idiotic moves when I sat and watched his genius mind continually use a 3-back rotation a few years ago, ruin Omar Easy's career, even when that system was incompetent beyond belief. It was near that level when Drummond's underachieving @$$ was thrown into the backfield as well, simply because he was an upperclassman. Joe Paterno's psychotic devotion to certain things, like playing undeserving upperclassmen who do not give you the best chance to win, is pretty dang bad, but maybe not as bad as this one. Pitt fans, get ready, cause here is some firepower.

With a shortage of scholarships available this year, Joe decided it was a smart idea to throw a scholarship at Joe Suhey. Who is Joe Suhey? Well, I think you know exactly who he is by his last name. How about his credibility?

This better be a diamond in the rough. This kid better be better than OJ McDuffie to justify this wasted scholarship. Especially with the JUCO rumors, LeSean McCoy rumors, and the UNC commit thinking of going to Penn State. Two more years. Patience, right?

Joe Suhey, a 6-foot-2, 200 pound, athlete from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill. is a three-year varsity starter for the Ramblers and come from Penn State lineage that includes his father Matt, his grandfather Steve, who was a PSU All-American in the 1940s and his great grandfather Bob Higgins who was also a Penn State All-American and coach.
Matt Suhey, who played fullback for the Bear from 1980 to 1989 and made a career blocking for Walter Payton, talked to FOS today, and said, "Yes, he (Joe) committed a couple of days ago."

Suhey has attracted interest from programs like Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame, Florida and North Carolina.

An All-Area selection as a junior, many folks feel that Suhey was a lock for Penn State because of his family's success as a Nittany Lion as well as Matt Suhey’s relationship with the Paterno family but that may not be the case.

Suhey has become close friends with Loyola Academy basketball teammate Jeff Jordan, who happens to be the son of NBA legend Michael Jordan.

His coach, John Holecek, is a former Illinois and NFL linebacker.

In terms of position at the next level some feel Suhey could be a possession receiver or a pass catching fullback.

I'll take a wait and see approach. Scirotto just made first team All Big 10 at DB (media), and he wasn't the big name guy either. He is supposedly a super hard worker, and has developed into a nice defensive back for the Nits. Suhey reminds me of the Sukay kid in terms of supposed size and speed. This is a family thing for sure, but he also isn't some bum guy off the street that has zero chance of playing or anything.

Only something like this would awake me from my slumber, a slumber that was a result of going up for tenure, and coaching, but alas, it did.

Truly awful in my opinion, as TAE pointed out. What provokes me the most about this whole situation with Suhey is that his old man can afford to send him to PSU on his own dime and he does not "need" (never mind the whole question of deserve) the scholarship. And now that McCoy, if he can get an acceptable SAT next week, will be a Lion next fall, only adds to the scholarship limit problem. The PSU class up until this point has been solid, with adding Wiz a few weeks ago, Sukay, Ditto, etc, it's a solid addition to last years class. But now....

Guess who recruited Suhey....Jay Paterno.

Oh, and Ohio U. is going to a bowl game, which is far more than I can say for.........

Coach is being optimistic, and I hate to be an alarmist, but "getting attention" from schools is not necessarily the same thing as being offered a scholarship from them. Thousands of kids get letters from colleges. My cousin had 2 drawers full of letters from I-A schools and eventually ended up at a I-AA school. I don't think any of the I-A schools actually offered him, but I may be mistaken. Point being, he had a ton of letters from bigtime schools. Did Florida and Notre Dame even offer Suhey a visit? I know his great great grandfather played for Paterno in 1756, but come on now. Do we really need to keep this up, with handing out scholarships to kids who are not as deserving as others? How many of Ganter's bonehead kids were on scholarships? If we lose somebody decent because of Joe Suhey...

2 more years, right? Gotta have patience...
