Re: all-area team
Sure Gunby was a good back, but what did he do against any good opposition(windber, meyersdale, portage)?
Re: all-area team
i wouldn't make the guarantee that he would be a top 3 pick in a mock draft. He got most of his yards against the patsies of the Westpac. I saw him play basketball last year, and he is a good athlete, very smooth.

Re: all-area team
Pecora was obviously a beneficiary of the system he plays in, where he passes 25-40 times a game and is able to put up the huge numbers that he does. Numbers don't always exactly portray how good a QB is, being that stats can be inflated by the system you play in. DeFrances is definitely a beneficiary of the team he plays on, being that he has all the weapons one may need in his arsenal of teammates. A good supporting cast is the best way for a QB's flaws to be hidden, being that you have players around you to make plays so that it's not all on you. I guess it really depends on what you measure a QB by: numbers (Pecora) or wins (DeFrances).
And back to that whole thing on Gunby: he rushed a total of 32 times for 146 yards in arguably his two biggest games this year, Windber (8 rush - 37 yds) and Portage (24 rush - 109 yds). Not too bad of stats (4.5 yds per rush), but definitely not as good as he did against to so-called "weaker" competition. Conemaugh Valley did not play Meyersdale this year. (stats of games according to MaxPreps)

Well, I'll meet Moldy (even on his turf - Morris') @ High Noon since he couldn't stay awake for his previous 10:00 p.m. challenge! Probably a bad time though, his favorite shows are on the History channel @ that time like: The rise of the Nazi Party, annals of Jack the Ripper, of course The Charles Manson fan club and Antagonist Anonymous.
But my input would be - everyone vote for all area.....but you could not choose players from your own team!

I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."

all area team can consist of LHAC westpac and heritage and if we cant take anyone from our own team then id go with......Antwaun Reed
speed kills
he can play both ways and is a big play waiting to happen
if we could take someone from our own team it would be Scott Lewis who is an excellent linebacker and dependable running back

Re: all-area team
As I had predicted, some of you threw the WestPAC argument into the mix. It's old and tired guys. I played in the LHAC and I realize it's better competition from top to bottom, but you still have to step on the field and play your schedule - the kids don't choose the conference they play in... unless they transfer to another school.
Anyway, I stand by my last post. If the COACHES did the draft, Gunby would be a top 3 pick. For fans - it makes no difference what you think. Most fans think watching football makes them an expert in coaching football. Most have no clue. You should only take offense to these comments if you fit the mold.
As far as Gunby being selected at the Quarterback position, there is no way. I wasn't insinuating that he should be. His best plays this season all came from the running back position - a position I don't even think he would have played if he were in the LHAC (receiver).
A couple of the other comments...
I don't put any emphasis on the 40-time because speed is not the only thing that makes a player special. However, Gunby is definitely faster than a 4.9 - not sure if you were joking. Also, for the comments about Windber, Portage and M'dale - someone else mentioned that CV did not play M'dale, he had a very good game against Portage and he only played one half against the Ramblers. His first two carries went for 15 and 10 and he likely would have put up 100+ on Windber if not for leaving with an injury. I know, it's an assumption.
One last thing, someone mentioned he would not likely start for McCort. Again, I'm not concerned with what a fan thinks about Gunby's talent. I think Coach Salem probably could have bumped one of your all-stars out of the lineup to make room for this kid. Any coach would have welcomed Gunby with open arms. He's coachable and he makes plays. If he had a supporting cast, he could have done some serious damage. Like I said in my first post, he ran for 1,600 yards and 20+ TD's... he earned every yard.
A lot of you may believe he racked up big numbers on garbage teams. That's fine. You've read the papers and looked at the stats on MaxPreps and that's where you're getting your analysis. However, if you did not see this kid play in person, you really do not understand where I'm coming from.
