Joey Stephenson leads Westy with 22 points. Balog adds a modest 18 (by his standards) and two treys. Tranquillo and Crookshank lead the Huskies with 18 and 13 points respectively.

After a pretty good week of hoops, I'd say the best game of the week was between Central Cambria and Central in a 2 point barnburner, I was not there but i heard from several that it was a great game in a hostile environment. I even heard a fight broke out at the end between the student sections.

I can't agree with you more, bigfan. Although I didn't really see any other games this week, my knowledge from the newspapers points to this game as the best of the week, if not the season. CC traveled to Central on Wednesday with a one-loss record, with that lone setback coming against quad-A Hempfield by 3 points. Anyways, the Devils led throughout the first half by anywhere from one to eight points and went into halftime with a decent sized seven point lead. The third quarter belonged to the Dragons though, as several key treys by the Central guards and conventional three point plays by Zach Hamm inside brought the score back in Central's favor. But despite playing probably their worst quarter of the whole year, CC weathered the storm and only trailed by 3 or so heading into the 4th. Back and forth, back and forth went the score, until Central finally grabbed a three point lead with around 1:30 to go. Then a huge three-point bucket by CC junior Mike Gowen tied up the game. With around one minute to play, Central had the ball and the choice to play for the last shot or just run regular offense. They got neither. Sneaky sophomore Jordan Miller picked one of the opposing guards' pockets and was consequently fouled, where he then nailed two huge free throws to put CC up 2. Central had another chance to tied or take the lead with under a minute to play, but unfortunately for the Dragons lightning struck twice that night. Once again, Miller picked another pocket and raced downcourt where he was fouled again. Two more free throws found the bottom of the net and put the CC lead to 4 with under 10 to play. Deja vu, if you will. Central drove down and Hamm finished a relatively uncontested lay-up with less than 4 ticks left, and the Devils shrewdly didn't even bother to take the ball out of bounds, much to the dismay of a confused Central player who tried to inbound it for them. The clock hit triple zeros and CC garnered yet another LHAC Section 1 victory. Overall it was a great game with great electricity from the crowds, fueled by CC's flamboyant student section, the PIT, who brought 50-60 kids on a 45 min bus ride to cheer on their beloved Devils. Big players step up in big games, and I guess CC just had some more big players than the Dragons. But kudos to both the Devils and Dragons on a job well done.
