My two cents .... how does a group of sportswriters rate highschool linebackers. Can they measure grit, determination, field awareness?
Or is it driven down into a simple analysis of tackles and sacks. Do they consider size too?

If so, Scott had alot of things working against him. In checking stats on MaxPreps, Scott wasn't in the top 100 in sacks or tackles. For a linebacker he is also undersized.

None of those qualities dimished his ability to control games, but without first hand visual knowledge ... it's a tough sell.

Part of that could be that McCort records tackles/sacks differently, and thats not meant to be a slight, but lets face it, alot of schools will give credit for tackles and half tackles if they happen to lay a hand on a kid. Additionally, teams probably game planned for Scott by either double teams or other schemes. Also, McCort had a group of good players, so in many cases tackles/sacks were accomplished by others before Scott could get there.

Now counter that with a team like PC, where the scheme and just about everything else revolved around Matt H, his stats (#30 in tackles) were impressive and he had good size.

In the end ... McCort won the district AA crown and Scott made defensive player of the year in the Trib, an appeared oversight by the state sportswriters based on loose facts and figures and heavily biased, while unfortunate, is not that uncommon.

What about a defensive back that is so good no team would throw to his side, with no stats, should that player make the all-state team? Or a receiver that makes all state while his quarterback doesn't.

Scott probably received the same type of treatment.

I'd suspect that if you poll any LHAC coach from the area, Scott would be one of the top three players on everyones list for players that they are glad won't be here next year.

So vman saw MH in an exhibition game. Now there's a sure way to judge talent. And when you design a defense for one kid, like we've been told about MH, doesn't that tell you how good he was? I mean your entire defensive scheme was designed for ONE kid!!! What's that tell you? Sounds like a talented kid to me. And Fetzer's been around the block a few times, so I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I'm sure that Fetzer is a better judge of talent than vman.

And irregardless still is not an accepted word, regardless of what you think
Are you getting that petty, vman, that you are now arguing about grammar? Keep it on topic or take it to the HOB.

Petty? No..it's an old inside story/joke.

But I do have a question for you speaking of voting process' :
I'm the best soccer player in my Company
Who voted on that ? You!

And in attempts to stay on (and end) topic: Moldy you never did answer the questions: What do you think the PO coach would say when comparing SL to MH & what do you think Franco would say about SL not making all state?

Again > Happy New Year

The PO coach would have said that they had trouble handling the McCort defensive line which inturn opened the door for Lewis to have a good game. PC's line was vulnerable which diminished the play of MH against the running attack of PO. That's what he would have said.... And Franco would have said, "Scott Lewis is a very good linebacker who helped his team beat us today. Since I did not see over 90% of the AA linebackers in the state play, I cannot comment on whether or not Lewis was All-state material. But again, he is very good. Maybe if I would have seen McCort's exhibition games on film it could have given me more insight on how good he was". Good enough of an answer for you?

I look into my crystal ball and see this topic being locked down within the next week....

and vman, seeing as I am the ONLY person in my company to ever play soccer, I think that it is a safe bet to say that I am the best. I'm probably also the best at oppossum kicking and cow tipping, but we'll save those for another conversation.

Notice it says "Class AA All-State Football Team List"

with that being said, the size of all these schools are the same so to say smaller schools this and that is irrelevent...scott lewis was deserving of this team and to say hes not one of the top 10 lbs in PA let alone AA just confuses me? But congrats to everyone who did make it...im sure u had to have a pretty good year to be named to the team
