the fact of the matter is that common curtesy isn't so common now a days and that this will continue to happen until PIAA puts an end to it. I can't recall where i had heard this, i think it was on Around the Horn, but there is a state in football if a team beats another team by something like more than 50 points that team's coach gets a monetary penalty... seems harsh but it's true.

it is in connecticut that they put in this rule b/c a coach would run up the score on teams that weren't nearly as good as his and his tema didn't go undefeated but had 4 victories over 50 points

Just remember, what comes around, goes around.
Regardless of the sport you coach, if you are in it long enough, a bad year or two will eventually fall your way and I don't think CR coach will forget anymore than any other coach would that's on the receiving end of that kind of sportsmanship.

but where does that get you softballfan? sure it leads to a rivalry...but a hate-hate rivalry instead of a competative rivalry...in an earlier post lets just say i was in a bad mood and shouldnt have posted, i think sportsmanship is more important at this leval than anything else...main reason sports where brought to the highschool and gradeschool level...i like what connet. about the 50 point rule, cept if any team is up 28 and doesnt have nonstarters in is just being well unsportsmanlike

I agree with you Dfense regarding running up the score and leaving your starters in. That has to cause bad feelings even among some players on the winning team too when you have kids on the bench who wouldn't normally get to play. A big lead in a game is a chance to give someone off the bench some time in the game.
Isn't that what Jr High programs are for?

I guess in some cases that would cause a little hate-hate rivalry. Have you ever been on the receiving end of a butt-kicking game and the other team left in the starters the whole game?

I dont know if anyone else watched the US womens soccer team play Tiawan today, but the US routed them 10-0 and i heard nothing of unsportsmanlike conduct from that. So I dont see how if it is alright at the professional and/or the International level how it is wrongful and unsportsmanlike to do it at the younger levels. The US didnt even put in their backups until the score was 7-0. Now dont get me wrong I am all for sportsmanship and fair play, however. What was FM supposed to do, other than they could have played with 10, 9, or 8 players. But they had no obligation to. The game is played with 11 players( unless of course it really gets out of hand and red cards come into play and well we all know how that goes). The Ridge coach knows it is played with 11 players, so if he wanted to play with 8 then so be it, but dont look for pity from your opposition. You could at least use it as motivation for your players to show them what sports are about.

How about the Germans 13-0 victory a few weeks back? No screams of "fair play" there!

that also has an interesting idea gunner. the uh, what was it, san marino team probably wasn't too happy bout it, but then again, they knew they were going to loose. and, it was for euro, so germany was trying to get as many goals as they could. 13 was enough. FIFA has been trying to get the smaller countries into the knockout rounds without having to play in the group stages, just so they would kinda have a chance....
