Transfer lawsuit filed
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07012/753302-364.stm
I realize this topic is not about basketball, but anyone who has any interest in the debate over high school transfers for athletic intent should read this article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. A wrestler who transferred from Mt. Lebanon to Canon-McMillan is filing a lawsuit to be able to wrestle this year after he was ruled ineligible by both the WPIAL and PIAA. The wrestler’s family sold their house in Mt. Lebanon and moved to the Canon-McMillan school district. The family appears to have other reasons for moving including financial issues and that the wrestler is a special education student who “was the subject of ridicule by fellow Mt. Lebanon students while enrolled at the school.” There may be more to this story then I am reading, but this seems to be a ridiculous attempt by a school district, the WPIAL and the PIAA to assert their control over people’s lives. It also does not involve Catholic schools or any mention of recruiting.
This ruling seems to show the inconsistency in how the PIAA handles these cases when compared to how they ruled on the Rob Gronkowski case. For those not familiar, Gronkowski is a high profile football player who transferred to Woodland Hills from Buffalo. His father has business interests in Pittsburgh and rented an apartment for him and his son, while the wife and mother stayed in their home in Buffalo. See the article at http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06237/716241-56.stm
