W.P.I.A.L. Football Coaches: WM Hires While SF Fires ....
1/20/2007 -

It has been a busy week of W.P.I.A.L. football coaching news, capped off with the hiring of a new coach at West Mifflin High School and the surprising opening of the coaching position at South Fayette High School.

The Titans new field boss is Tim Brennan, hired to replace Joe Lamenza at West Mifflin, who only lasted one season as the successor to Ray Braszo.

Brennan was 126-34 in "15' years as head coach at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Idaho. The 48-year old coach moved to Pittsburgh in Janaury after his wife got a job in the area.

The Titans were 3-6 this past fall after advancing to the W.P.I.A.L. Class (AAA) Semifinals in 2005.

Meanwhile, T.J. Plack was not retained by South Fayette High School, ending his five successful seasons as head football coach of the Lions.

South Fayette went 30-19 in Plack's five years, including playoff berths in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The Lions just missed out on a W.P.I.A.L. playoff spot this season, finishing tied for fourth place behind Brentwood, Seton-Lasalle and Steel Valley in a tough Class (AA) Century Conference with an overall record of 5-4.

South Fayette, which lost the final three games of the season, just missed out on a tiebreaker to the Riverside Panthers for the Class (AA) wildcard.
