Random News & notes, from out East....
We’ve certainly come a long way in race relations.
I guess ??????????????????
During pregame introductions at Harrisburg Saturday, Chester players did indeed appear to be chuckling when Zech Runkle was introduced. Runkle had the last laugh with his solid play in the win.
I asked Runkle how he felt about being known as “that white kid from Harrisburg”. He laughed and said he didn’t mind it at all........

Other random thoughts...
The window is closing on Bishop McDevitt’s playoff hopes for this year. That’s too bad since second-year coach Dwan Lee seems to have turned the corner with the Crusaders’ program. He has brought them back to a competitive level in the big, bad Mid-Penn Commonwealth.
For the first-year coaches in the vast Central Dauphin School District, this will have to go down as a foundation-laying year. Curious to see where Bruce Leib at CD East and Jason Black at Central Dauphin lead us from here.
In the Keysone division, Lower Dauphin is making a great push to get on the AAAA bracket. Should be interesting with their low-scoring brand of hoops.
The Colonial division has struggled so badly it’s hard to imagine what front-runners East Pennsboro or Milton Hershey will do in districts. There’s no question that both are dangerous.
As exciting as the Capital division has been, it’s all tempered because they don’t tend to do well in districts. Scotland always carried the flag before Greencastle-Antrim’s run last year.
Can James Buchanan or Waynesboro make it out of the first round? To Giant Center for the quarters? That’s the $64,000 question.
In Tri-Valley-Land, Upper Dauphin and Newport have rallied behind Greenwood.
Wildcats fans have clamored for a higher state ranking but their schedule has held them back. Other Class A powers in the state are playing and beating some of the better big schools. That’s what counts for rankings.
Of course when tournament time rolls around, all that counts is winning.
