P.I.A.A. Board of Control Notes.....
1/25/2007 - P.I.A.A. Release
At its Thursday, January 25, 2007 meeting, the PIAA Board of Directors took action on several items, including the following:
1. At the request of the Football Steering Committee, the Board voted to refer to each PIAA District Committee a request for input as to the possibility of amending the starting and ending dates for the football season;
2. At the request of the District #7/ W.P.I.A.L. Committee, the Board of Directors formed a task force to investigate possible revisions to the rule governing the eligibility of students who transfer to another school;
3. The Board directed the administrative staff to further develop a proposal to permit wheelchair-bound athletes to participate in interscholastic track and field competition;
4. The Board of Directors discussed matters relating to participation of public and private schools in interscholastic competition and, at the request of the District One Committee, directed the administrative staff to explore options to ensure competitive equity for all member schools; and
5. At the request of the Field Hockey Steering Committee, the Board agreed to forward to the national rules making body (NFHS) a proposal that would prohibit the use of a field hockey stick above the shoulder.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Directors is Friday, March 23, 2007, beginning at 8:00 am at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, State College, PA.
