News & Notes in (AA) Hoops !!!
Trinity coach Larry Kostelac Jr. made an interesting comment after Friday night’s loss to Susquehanna Twp.
He noted that Susquehanna Twp. has been in the Class (AAA) boys’ basketball state rankings all season. His Shamrocks have beaten the bigger, ranked Indians yet they have not been able to hang in the Class (AA) rankings.
That’s no knock on Trinity. The Shamrocks have a state championshp pedigree, they play a killer schedule and they’re having a strong season despite all kinds of injuries and setbacks.
It’s just that this year’s (AA) field is extraordinary. It’s deep, talented and too competitive for so much as a hiccup. A pool of some 50 solid (AA) teams are clamoring for one of those "18" spots in the top "10" or honorable mention.
The strength of (AA) was further underscored last week by Imhotep’s blowout of Frankford, Prep Charter’s handling of Harrisburg, and then Aliquippa’s overtime defeat of Mt. Vernon (NY). Mt. Vernon was ranked No. #18 in the nation, by USA Today.
The P.I.A.A.-(AA) tournament should be spectacular.
