North Star im sorry but the PIAA defending Western Champs still have some players but congrats on D-5 Champs! The key for the Cougars is to play a slow paced game cause if you get in a running competiton with the Tigers its over if the game is a low scoring game it can be close!KEY is make them take shots instead of layups!!!!

prediction-Beaver Falls 67-North Star 52

Westy-the first time you play them you have no idea what hits you....MUST Guard Stephensen within the first 2 minutes of the game!!!!!Because he likes getting up the first shot of the game and usually makes it....and without fail Roman puts in Young at the 6 minute mark for Joey. Also the post defender cant help on Watson because its an easy dish to Trotz and Young every time......KEY for North Catholic speeeeeeed up the game Westmont plays the first quarter fats then puts a sleeper hold on for the next three quarters make them get up and down

prediction Westy 68-NC 45

Crushers got the type of game they will wanna play...A defensive one...YC only put 39 on the boards in the D-3 Title game but obviously the can score with 2 1000 point scorers on their roster But the tough man to man D of the Crushers should keep it close If Kent Malzi,Jack Schrey, and Matt Varga can step up and hit a few 3's and Wayne Jones gets the ball down low and makes his foul shots it will be alright......the KEY!!! is Whoever is guarding Iaiti(spelling is wrong) wether it be Lewis,Schrey,Varga or Mintmier they must be in his face at all times cause hes gonna throw it up there!!!!!!

prediction BM 45 YC 42

The Tigers will be way to much for the D5 Cougars. But congrats to North Star for even making state playoffs, most teams don't even get that far. PREDICTION: BEAVER FALLS 74 NORTH STAR 48

North Catholic had to pull an upset to get where they did but I don't see Westmont blowing their perfect season in the first round against a team that is 15-11.
PREDICTION: WESTMONT 66 NORTH CATHOLIC 56
(LOOK FOR A GREAT MATCHUP BETWEEN BEAVER FALLS AND WESTMONT IN THE 2ND RD SHOULD BE A GREAT GAME IF IT HAPPENS)

Well, well, well that brings us to Bishop McCort. The Crushers have exceeded expectations this year by making the state playoffs, especially after Cruz couldnt play. But the Crushers havent faced anything like York Catholic. The Irish are better than Westmont and BM lost to them 4 times so it doesnt look good. Add junior point guard Jacob Iati and it turns into an Irish victory.

PREDICTION YORK CATHOLIC 60 BISHOP MCCORT 44

Good Luck to all area teams!!

In my side of things .... i've seeen NS play and i think if they play good defence they could possibly stop the tigers. The tigars are a tough team to beat .... but coming off of a loss and haveing to travel almost 2 hours to an new court it will be hard for them. I say if kavar plays with the team cougars will pull through ... if he goes to himself ... cougars lose by 15 ...

Sorry to burst your bubble crack, but no one player will make a difference. I hope the entire NS team watched ESPN2 last night to see Drew Shubik. What a motivational event for the cougars.

Sorry North Star fans -- Beaver Falls is just too good. BF by 22.

Any opinions on how the other D5-D6 teams will do? CC? Both Westmonts? Both McCorts? Conemaugh Twp? Both BGs? etc.

Well, I've seen both teams play "2" times this year & Yikes !!! It's not going to be pretty.

N.S. will be ended fast & quick. Once Beaver Falls puts the man-to-man press on, it's OVER !!!! they are really quick. Quicker than anything N.S. is even close to seeing...

I'm with Lhacbigfan, somewhere around 73 to 46 sounds about right...

I wished it wasn't true, but this will be a different type caliber game.

Beaver Falls can not be slowed down enough to control the game. Once you try to slow it down, they step up the Defense... If you try to run with them, it gets worse. Their faster, with ball control... :?

What Beaver Falls will do is, try & make you play the faster pace, so that they control you. They dish off passes under neath so smooth that they'll be times that N.S. players won't know where the ball got too... Yikes !!!

As a good buddy of mine used to say on here: (From Shaler). Leave your wifes & kids at home, no -one should have to witness a beating such as this..

Good Luck & may you rest in peace.........

To clear things up i am Dave Kavar,
Well Coachcal all i have to say in defense for myself is that i am not Drew Shubik i am Dave Kavar. I am myself so don't compare me to ayone else. I know i'm not as good as Drew because when we play against each other over the summer he usually beats me 10-7, 10-6. Anyways i know what i have to do to play against these guys. I have played against players like this aeverywhere else, especially the Keystone Games in which i brought back the bronze for the Laurel Highlands along with several other local players from Somerset, Forest Hills, and Holidaysburg. We also were a bunch of white guys highly underestimated but we won as a team. I think you guys are highly underestimating me and NS. I'm not saying that we are going to win but don't be shocked if the score is closer than any of your predictions. I am very confident i can play agaisnt anybody that shows up and i can't wait to play agaisnt Beaver Falls because like all great athletes i love be put up against an impossible challenge. Just remeber we have nothing to lose.

Good post Dave. I give you much kudos for speaking your mind, and being respectful to all of us old know it alls on this board. Once again, I truly hope you knock off BF. It would be a feather in the cap of all teams in the area. I did not intend to put you down with the Shubik comparison. Facts are facts though, and he is a once in a few decades player for any program, not just NS.
BTW..did you play football? I seem to remember your name form GOTW.
