We are all from the same town aren't we????
I can understand during the season people talking up their teams but once playoff time comes shouldn't we remember that we are all from the same area and be cheering all the kids on no matter what team they play for. The kids have less dislike for each other then the parents do. Good luck to all the kids out there. No matter if you win or lose this weekend you all should be proud of yourselves for getting as far as you have.

That'll be the day when Johnstown people root for Altoona, or vice versa. To alot of fans, it's be true to your school. Not necessarily to your conference or district. And if you're true to your school, you may not root for your rivals. That's just the way it is sometimes.

I think most basketball fans in the area will be rooting for the local teams to do well. I would like to see Westmont, McCort boys and girls do well, as well as North Star, Conemaugh Twp. and Central Cambria and the BG teams.
Tough draw for McCort boys in the 1st round but I don't think too many people thought they would get this far.
Tough draw for Westy boys in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with potentially Beaver Falls in Round 2 and the Quips in Round 3.
Good luck to all area teams.

During the regular season, I cheer diehardedly (?) for my alma mater, but come playoff time it's Johnstown vs Pennsylvania. I am very proud of this town. I bleed red and gray, but have driven twice to West Chester to watch Bishop McCort win state championships. I got a tear of happiness when a nearly sold-out War Memorial cheered on the Crushers to a state championship and a tear of sadness when Conemaugh Valley and Greater Johnstown lost their state championships. I even rooted for those rival Rangers to knock off Mount Carmel. At this point, the local rivalries are history - it's about pride in the local area. Don't hate each other - hate the rest of the state

I too root / cheer for the mountain teams..
I bleed Blue & white, but come play-off time I'm all about District #5/6 winning & going as far as they can. If not the whole way...
I've lived In the W.P.I.A.L. land since "1989", but I was born & raised in Windber. So! You can take the guy out of Windber, but you can't take the Windber out of "The Guy" 8)
The W.P.I.A.L. is, & always will be better to most extents & they should be. You don't realize how many people they have to pick from to have the teams they have... & I don't care what Classification your talking about...
Everyone likes to talk about the Catholic & Private schools loading up in H.S. ...Well, it's not very much better down here in public~land of the W.P.I.A.L. They just do it in a more non~shalont way..
I wonder how many people realize that 6'-9""Herb Pope" that plays for Aliquippa, really should be playing for Fox Chapel ?? Well! it so happens that He claims that his parents are split up & He doesn't want to live with either parent. So ! he decides to go live with Grand~Ma Pope, who just happens to live in Aliquippa. Hmmm !!! Stinks like old meat back in the refrigerator to me
"Ole Herb", can now play with his own kind, at a better basketball school. & like Aliquippa really needs a 6'-9" Center with all the talent they have year in & year out.... When is the last time Fox Chapel has won anything ????
I can go on & on about players in the W.P.I.A.L. Public ranks....
How about Danny Fortson ? Altoona / Shaler Area / where ever else?
Four of Southmoreland's football players jumped ship in football a few years back, only to go play at Greensburg Central Catholic. Ever hear of Max Suter? How about Cody Catalina ? or Mike Sukay ? or Cody Funk. All Ex-Southmoreland players.
This year's starting point guard for Jeannette H.S. basketball team is non other than, Jordan Hall. He played last year for Southmoreland as a Freshman starter. He too, is living with Grand~Ma in Jeannette Area. Imagine that ?
One thing for sure, The District #5/6 boys & girls are "95" percent legit when it comes to home~town products.. Yes ! The Catholic & Private Schools do their share to win over athletes & why not ? there in it for reccognition too. It's a choice you make, just like living in America...

Choppy, By, "his own kind", I assume you mean other tall people. If not,you are very close to a mighty big line.

Understand everyone's point & perspective & to add to the mix (and sports) I'm pulling like he11 for a couple WH wrestlers, that I know to be special kids!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."
