PBall,
I'll second that. How did Windber ever get in the mix of this years Westmont accomplishments ? Westmont had their year to shine & Windbers had many of their own. There's No comparison that honestly could be made. That's a woulda / coulda/ shoulda, statement

Re: Westmont vs Beaver Falls
I just threw in my opinion, and compared Westy to the very solid Windber teams of the past. Those Windber teams were excellent, especially as local ball goes. I think this Westy team was bettre than the Quaker Valley team that Windber lost to in the western finals a few years back.
True, teams were down in D6 this year, but top to bottom, this is one of the strongest years ever in PIAA AA.
...and if you wan to talk schedules, it's all relative...how about the horrendous WestPac teams Windber beat up on those seasons they were solid and finished with few if any losses? Do you think the Hollidaysburg, McCort, CC, Blairsville, and Johnstown teams of this season were better than Shade, Turkeyfoot, Shanksville, Portage, and Salisbury Elk-Lick????? NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Even the mighty Ramblers who went to Hershey lost to a Penn Cambria team that finished that season 3-21.
It's just my opinion that this Westy team was the best small school District 5-6 A/AA team I have seen in the past 15 years or so.
That said, I have seen a few district 6 AAAA teams from State College and Atoona over the past few decades that would've punished this year's Hilltopper team.
It's just my opinion...and it may be worth nothing to anyone but me!

Yes, but look at the east regional, both finalists are charter schools, crazy because these schools have no boundries. Beaver Falls, aliquippa, draw from a small town. Philadelphia prep charter draws from the largest city in PA, where is the logic?

Re: Westmont vs Beaver Falls
Westmont had a great season, no doubt about it. They had a good group of players that commited themselves to be great. However, they did benefit from the fact that the LHAC was as weak this year as it has been in a long time. I don't think they are the best AA team in 10-15 years.
I don't think they are the better than any of the Windber teams or even the 2005 McCort team that had Shawn Lewis, Jose Cruz, Pete O'Connor, Abdullah Wadley, and Josh Varga. That team beat Johnstown by 15 on the road (they went to the AAA Final that year), won the LHAC title, and beat Westmont by 21 in the District Championship. They beat Shady Side Academy in the first round of the state playoffs, before losing to Aliquippa by 9.

Re: Westmont vs Beaver Falls
:?: Why wasn't the bench used more in this game?? Westmont used the bench throughout the year with great success. I don't understand why roman didn't use it more since the WH boys were getting worn down.

Re: Westmont vs Beaver Falls
Well, i made the trip down to Duquesne University because I wanted to cheer on the only guy team left in the state playoffs from the J-Town Area. What i noticed was that the only person who could get the ball up the court, through all the BF pressure was Watson. No one else on that team could do that. Second Roman usually only plays 8 kids. He played 9 this game. Stephenson along with Watson and Balog, needed to be in there because they are game changers, and are huge scorers for the Hilltoppers. Trotz and Khuri substituted in and out. At the end of the game, Roman put in Bailow? because he's a great shooter, and they needed some threes. Young was brought in the normal lineup, and the 9th guy, Sam Haun was brought in for a few seconds because something seemed to be wrong with Watson. So i dont know what you're talking about, because he played 9 guys, and kept the guys in who could score, who could dish it out, and who could make the moves to get away from the tight knit defenders.

Re: Westmont vs Beaver Falls
Factman, are you talking about the 05-06 mccort team, or 04-05 team?
Because 05-06 mccort team never played westmont in the district championship game, and i don't remember anything about the 04-0 season in the LHAC so you could be right, im just not sure

But that was a team that caught a few bad breaks against the Quips(half court shots at the buzzer chucked 3 pointers that fell)
Westmont doesnt need to make excuses they won 29 games!(they lost fair and square what can you do?)They beat everyone in this confrence + district that was thrown at them
They won the section...confrence and district
they would have won the A-AAA as well
Lets hear it are they the best team in D6????
meaning Altoona as the only other team that could challenge them?
1 topic flying under the radar......Joey Balog finished with 1001 points
Congratulations to Joey for the 1000 career point mark
