Connor moving to the Inside

Post by abpk2903 »

Dan Connor is going to fill Poz's shoes and move to the inside linbacker position this year to make room for Sales and Lee.

What you think????

Im not so sure. He's not as thick as most Big 10 LBS but neither was Puz. However he is tall and throwing over the middle will be harder. But i think he will do pretty well, he played middle in high school did he not? I have a feeling it will all come right back to him.

This is another stupid move by the PSU coaching staff.

Why would you want to do that to a senior, who's played his entire career on the outside, just to make room for some other players that are younger than he is? Why not throw a sophomore stud in there and let him learn the ropes, so that way you can have him in there for 2 years after this one? Didn't they do well in recruiting LB's last year? The PSU D struggled early last season, then got stronger as the players who switched rolls finally adapted and got comfortable with it. So now we're gonna do it again and hope that everything comes out just fine come Big 10 time. Idiotic.

He shouldn't have a problem with the move at all.
at the coaches clinic at mccort the other week, Tom Bradley said that all the linebackers HAVE TO know each position anyways. So i don't see him having trouble.

As far as the coaching decision...I dunno. They want to get the best and fastest players on the field so I don;t see a problem with that.

Knowing the position and being comfortable playing a position is two totally different things. I know I wouldn't want to do it if I was Connor.

Here's something to think about. All us PSU fans were irritated when Connor flirted with leaving early. He decided to stay. Then Adalius Thomas leaves Baltimore. Thomas is a linebacker who plays safety roles, just like the scouts had Connor listed if he decided to go pro. Baltimore picks late, Connor would obviously be available. Maybe he's not a first rounder in the conventional sense, but when you have an immediate hole to fill, is there a player in this draft more capable than Dan Connor at that vacancy?

Let's hope this works out. I agree with Ham, this is a stupid move from where I'm sitting, but only because we have multiple linebackers who are just as capable as Connor at filling the middle, they just lack experience. Any opne of those kids will adapt quickly because they have to. I'm an avid fan of trial by fire.

I think Athens Cat brings up a great point, though. But maybe that philosophy needs to stay on the practice field.

abpk...
i get where you're coming from but in the article he said he wnated to play middle at state all along. Plus, he gets the whole spring and summer to get comfortable. I think he should do fine. But again...coaching move...theres pros and cons

Any one of those kids (multiple linebackers) will adapt quickly because they have to????? A very weak non-conference schedule doesn't hurt their ability to step in (and learn and practice a little) either.

Again with the non-conference schedule. They play Notre Dame (CHARLIE WEIS' GENIUS OVERCOMES KIDS LEAVING SCHOOL, RIGHT?) Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. I hate to break it to you, Moldy, but name me a conference other than the Big Ten where every single team is in a position of moving up right now.
