Having a lot of tackles is obviously a good thing, but can be quite misleading. All those tackles and he has only 2 tackles for losses? If he had 15 tackles Saturday and 10 of them were more than 10 yards down field...is that impressive? I would be willing to bet most of the players on St. Francis's defense has elevated tackle numbers because their offense can't stay on the field and the defense can't make any 3 and outs.

It's like when a d-lineman gets pushed downfield 8 yards and he makes a tackle. The lineman gets credit for the tackle but he got blown off of the ball. I know he is a LB, but tackles can be a misleading statistic.

Good point except this kid is a leader as a true freshman in the NEC...nice to see the local talent move on and do well at the next level...I dont need to break down film to say this kid is doing a hell of a job...

It most certainly is nice to see area kids move on and do good in college. I didn't mean it as a rip on the kid, just making a point. I think often that we get worked up in the hs that we root for and belittle or minimize others accomplishments. I actually root for all area teams when they start states and root for all area athletes when they move onto college.

I think you could probably find a load of Jtwn or FH fans that root for McCort to lose if they play a team from out of the area and vice versa. I don't think it should be that way.

I remember when Johnstown was in the state championship in basketball a few years ago. The Westmont girls team stayed and rooted for Johnstown as did a number of Westmont fans. I saw last year at Altoona Field House Johnstown fans root and cheer for McCort girls in the bball playoffs when they were playing another team. I think there should be more of this in the Jtwn area.

In a way, i would love to see all the Greater Johnstown Area schools combine to see how our area stacks up with other areas. I bet our area would be competitive.

One of my favorite Johnstown moments was when Bishop McCort was playing in the state championship at the War Memorial Arena. I think there were 3,500-3,700 people there and they sure weren't all from McCort. There were kids from McCort, Johnstown, Westy, Richland, Ferndale, CV, and FH. There were young and old, from elementary school kids to senior citizens. They were all cheering for the local kids. It was amazing.

Would McCort fans root for Westmont in any type of playoff game?

Probably not considering most ppl would rather spit on mccort than pat them on the back...

Now are they going to go to the event and cheer against a johnstown team? no...

Sure didn't come across as such! It would have been like if a BM fan came on here last yr. after BM, (a single A) school, beat Jtwn.(AAA) so bad physically that they didn't have to throw the ball at all; significantly inflating the tackles for the Jtwn defenders!!!!! Uhh, not ripping on the Jtwn kids?????

Sure McCort fans would root for Westmont if they were playing FH. But probably BECAUSE they would fear playing FH again, not because they LIKE Westy. You know, kind of self serving. How about in inter-districts then?

Sort of related ...

A few years back when Westmont was playing for the state hockey championship, kids from a number of local schools voluntarily made up a team for Westmont to practice against. Does anybody remember what all schools they came from?
