State CC Meet
It was a very good day for local athletes at the state Cross Country meet. Central Cambria girls destroyed the field to win the the state championship. Carly Seymour continued to dominate and avenged last years loss by beating the same girl who beat her last year by 40 seconds. Central Cambria added 2 more medalists (Annie Cekada and Kelsey Seymour). Forest Hills girls picked up two medals. Sarah Strayer was 8th (which I think was her 4th straight year making all state) and freshman Leahanne Wirfel was 13th.
The Bishop McCort boys placed 3 in the top 25. Jimmy Spisak was 5th, Mike Garver was 18th and Andy Luksik was 21st. It was a tremendous accomplishment to place all 3 in the top 25.
Laurel Highlands teams took 1 championship and 8 medals. They have had some outstanding teams and individuals over the last decade and should be commended for the continued excellence in the sport.

Re: State CC Meet
any word on how any of the CR girls did?
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Re: State CC Meet
If Matt Varga or Caparelli ran X-Country, i don't know if anyone could compete....I feel that if most X-country teams were to truly put their best athletes on the course, you would be hearing more football and basketbal lstar's names being mentioned.....but hey thats just my humble opinion

Please walker, spare us the sarcasm..Varga and Caparelli tear up the football field, but they'd get their asses burnt if they ever stepped on a cross country course. Varga is fast, but he'd be nothing in any race over 400 meters, and Caparelli is huge so it wouldn't even be worth his time to try to run 3 miles.
To your credit, I will say that Caparelli was quite the runner before he decided to bulk up and play football. I believe he was almost sub 6 for the mile in middle school, and that he used to run right alongside Spisak and Garver. So if this was the past, maybe Caparelli could run with the big dogs, but I he's too slow and about 100 pounds too heavy to be able to compete in a 5k.

just to correct you, once a runner, the LHAC brought home 9 medals, not 8- Carly Seymour, Kelsey Seymour, Kendall Seymour, and Annie Cekada from CC, Strayer and Warful from FH, and Spisak, Garver, and Luksik from McCort.
But I agree, great representation by all these runners, and especially impressive performances from the girls from Central Cambria and the 3 boys from McCort.
Too bad McCort didn't have a 4th and 5th, or we'd be talking about 2 state championship teams from the LHAC
