How Glad are You Morelli is Done?
In the last game he'll ever play as a starter, Anthony Morelli stunk the place up. Way to go, Morelli. Way to cap off what was possibly the most overrated potential in the history of our state's quarterbacking.
Jay Paterno has done a remarkable job in allowing QB's to NOT go through progressions, and to continue throwing into triple coverage.

Re: How Glad are You Morelli is Done?
The Drew Weatherfords' and Casey Dicks' of the world were glad to have him around to put a little distance between them and pond scum. Did anyone else read the article on Saturday about him getting lost in the desert and missing the press-conference, Sean Lee referred to him as a moron, then Morelli admitted to turning down an invite to the Hula bowl and committing to the senior bowl in Birmingham because he didn't know where the Hula bowl was played.. The article went on to say that scout.com more or less equated Morelli to a 6th degree imbecile. Hopefully he catches on with the Ravens.

on a scale of 1-10, about 581. By the way, it was nice to see that they finally used Clark at qb a little bit like they should have all season just to give a little change of pace to the game. i.e. having a qb that can run and sometimes throw, as opposed to having one that's immobile can throw the ball a mile but it's usually to the wrong team. IMHO, anyway.

Re: How Glad are You Morelli is Done?
During the game broadcast, the cover guys were referencing how the A&M coaching staff were preaching "60 minutes" during bowl preparation. Well ever since the Michigan State game was over, I was praising "60 MINUTES!!!", as in it was the last 60 minutes I'd ever have to watch the ball-baby, **** quarterback that is Anthony Morelli. He hasn't been available to the press since after the Temple game. So not only did he suck it up, he never had to answer to anybody. Way to get him prepared to get ripped appart should he ever find himself in an NFL game and continually miss wide open receivers down the middle and force deep balls to triple coverage. Did anyone else enjoy him smiling when he went to the sideline after throwing his first INT? What a douche.
Normally I like to support every PSU player that they put on the field, but whenever you coddle and protect someone so much that he never even has to answer to ANYTHING, it's very hard to do it. Hopefully he drops off the face of the earth and we never have to hear from him again...

Re: How Glad are You Morelli is Done?
In my own Hierarchy, PSU football ranks just above warmth, water, and oxygen. That being said, I should be happy he has moved on, but I'm not going to blame the last 2 seasons exclusively on him..
Myself and TAE had a 2-3 hour conversation about this a few weeks ago:
3 seasons ago, Michael Robinson, who, even though Joe called him one of the best (or the best, i dont remember) players he ever coached, was a terrible qb. Does anyone remember that whole 3 picks in 4 passes fiasco (indiana, maybe?) in 04? Robinson is slated to start 05 as PSUs qb, and everyone in the Blue and White brotherhood pulled our hair and screamed for not playing Morelli. Then this happend:
I dont know if it was Galen Hall, I dont know if it was Jay Paterno, but whoever it was realized what they were working with and made the MOST out of Robinson's talents. How did they do it.. The SPREAD OFFENSE. PSU had the Fantastic 4 in King, Butler, Norwood, and Williams, and those 4 were all used magnificently. with that speed, the field was open enough to allow for Robinson to run. The Big Ten (with the exception of Michigan against Florida) buckles against the spread. Look at the Illinois turnaround. Look at Michigan's first 2 games. Heck, even Indiana was a player in the conference this year. Problem was, Robinson graduated, and PSU immediatly reverted back to run on first and second down, pass on third, blah blah blah. This team has the best receiving core in the country for 3 years, 3 more than able running backs the past 2 seasons, and still lost 9 games.
I dont blame Morelli as much as I blame coaching. Yes Morelli made some bonehead plays. Yes he didnt make great reads and prided himself on overthrowing open targets, but at the same time the up tempo shot gun sling the ball around offense that is all the rage in college football showed its successful face and then immediatly was burried after the most successful season in happy vally in 11 years.
I know Morelli is nowhere near the athlete of Robinson, Dixon, Tebow, Alex Smith, Vince Young, etc. But i know he is as capable as Reesing, Daniel, and Painter. Im not going to say he wasnt given a chance, I just honestly feel that PSU didnt utilize all of their weapons to the best of their ability. I dont know why King or AJ Wallace werent at least spotted in on offense, or why D Will wasnt in the backfield more often. It seemed like they just burned all of the tapes from their 11 win season and went back to what made the program mediocre in the first place.
Clark looked decent. The qb draw was a staple of the Lion's offense in 05, and scored a TD against A&M. Prior would save the program, but He'll be a Wolverine or Duck next month. If any of those receivers come back, I hope the staff realizes that speed and speed alone will win you the big ten. You dont have to have a complecated offense. Crossing and Pick routes are short, allow receivers to get open and use that speed in space to create big plays. PSU still has a chance, but the window is closing fast.
