T. Pryor...

Post by Coach »

Good video and seems like a good kid. I really hope he becomes a Nit, but if he doesn't at least he seems to come off as a good kid with parents who look out for him and I'll wish him well except when he plays PSU. I'm not making that comment because of PSU and his dad. I'm making it because these kids make huge decisions and it is important that their parents take a role in it...not to choose, but to help their child see all aspects of things.

Now, maybe he can play in the state finals at the BJC and the Nittany Nation can come see their future QB. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

I would be very surprised if he goes to PSU. Their reputation with QB's is not stellar, and who knows if the same coaching staff will be there in 4 years. He would dobest in a spread offense like Mich or Oregan.

Well right now it looks like OSU or PSU. I think Pryor is worried first and foremost about developing into a NFL player and Penn State and Ohio State has done a much better job at that than Oregon and WVU (Rich Rod's System) have. I'm not saying Penn State and Ohio State will not run the spread with him but if they do they will run it how Texas did with Vince Young, Penn State did with Robinson, and Ohio State did with Troy Smith. All three of those players have had success in the NFL.

One major difference among the 3 players you listed is that Robinson is not having his success in the NFL as a quarterback. If Pryor wants to play quarterback in the NFL I can't imagine why he would choose Penn State.

Terrelle Pryor is already a better thrower than Morelli, that's why he'd do okay at Penn State.

To play devil's advocate... You have Robinson, you change the offense because of him, and then he graduates. Now you have Morelli and Clark. Even a bad Morelli is a better start in 06 and 07 because Clark is terrible as a passer. What were they supposed to do? You pretty much have to go with what you have if you don't have a QB who can run that system. I'm not making excuses for them, I know Jay Paterno is an idiot, but still. What's the alternative to Morelli? Jay Paterno has already pretty much admitted this when he was all of a sudden real excited for next year because of Clark.

One of the big selling points at PSU for Pryor has been this supposed "great plan" that Jay has for Pryor. We all know Pryor is a smart kid, so obviously this plan has made an impact on him. And read between the lines here, guys, during all of this: Tom Bradley OR Jay Paterno is definitely getting that job when Joe leaves if they get talk Pryor into coming to Penn State.

why would you say that if Tom Bradley has been recruiting him. I think its a strong case to make Bradley the head man.

I go back and forth over whether or not I want Bradley to get that job. As a recruiter, he is invaluable. As a coach, his players are usually pretty good, his schemes are usually decent, but neither of those categories are "great". We all know that PSU might have a problem developing talent, but they make 2 and 3 star players into quality starters. It's hard to gauge Bradley, because everything can go either way with him.

But in any case, the way to beat Penn State is to force a passing attack and keep your offense on the field. All defenses will wear down over time, and when you have a QB who can consistently find a short-passing option, Penn State is finished. Penn State is the easiest team in the Big Ten to prepare for. That right there is no one's fault except the coaching staff.

Why Jay gets the nod is because of Joe, and because of the alumni. Even with 30 yrs. of loyalty, I still see Bradley getting the shaft in favor of Jay. It's pathetic, but prepare for it. Let's hope it doesn't happen, but there's a lot more going on behind the curtain in college football than just the games on the field, and in case you don't catch my drift, we're talking income. No matter how big your program, you need donation money, and unfortunately, you have to be able to give people what they want, which are wins and comfort. That's why Nick Saban and Bobby Petrino get hired over coordinators. There's a comfort level and a nostalgia with Jay, and that'll carry a lot of weight after this season.

Just be prepared for it.
