I thought NBC was top of class of D5 A Girls? What happened?

It is the competition. The Sideling Hill League is extremely weak compared to the West Pac. Luckily for NBC, they get to play teams from the West Pac South come playoff time, the Single A District 5 teams. However, teams like Berlin, Shanksville, and Rockwood get tested during the season vs. West Pac North powers like Township, North Star, Ferndale, Conemaugh Valley, and Windber. An upstart NBC team beat a young Berlin squad to win last year's title.

I don't think competition had anything to do with it. Didn't Everett (co-shl champs) with nbc just beat westpac north 'power' windber?

note that i didn't say westpac wasn't stronger (at least north section is) but shl is every bit as strong as the westpac south section. berlin didn't exactly crush southern on saturday and i would venture to bet that shanksville has to be feeling like they are carrying a lucky rabbits foot after upsetting both tussey and nbc.

I think it just came down to who played the best game on any given day and it wasn't nbc's day from what i heard. Same thing happened to boys #1 seeded conemaugh township on the boys side. bad day shooting the ball = loss

Agree with Sideling Hill fan. The West Pac north may be stronger with Conemaugh Township and North Star but Everett, NBC, Southern Fulton and Tussey Mt. would all be contenders to win the WestPac south. Now, I don't have much of an argument after Shanksville just beat both TM and NBC and beat Southern Fulton in the regular season. With the exception of Hyndman and Fannett Metal the SHL is very competitive.
