What's the alternative for AAAA? Drive to Ebensburg? That's over 60 miles for State College. On top of that, the new middle school gym is nearly the same size as the HS gym, which by the way is second only to the Altoona Fieldhouse in the district in size.

Alternatives for the AAAA boys championship game (other than St. Francis or Tyrone)...I have come up with several good ones:

Juniata College would be the best site (at least let them play on a college court, and it'd be a neutral site too, halfway between both schools!)

Rec Hall (another college court that would probably draw a nice crowd)

Jaffa Mosque (bring out the old floor! LOL just kidding on this one)

I shouldn't judge Tyrone's Middle School gym because I have never seen it, but Juniata or Rec\Hall would both be better than Tyrone HS, IMHO.

That said, I know that Juniata or Rec Hall may not even be available. I know that it's a pain getting adequate playoff sites in District 6, because there just are not that many alternatives. One of my best fiends in the WPIAL basketbal chair, and even with the sites here, he tells me how difficult it is to get certain sites. When everyone sees "the perfect neutral site" it simply may not be available to be used when the games need to be played. Fortunately, North Allegheny and North Hills High Schools both lie right about in the middle of the WPIAL (both 15 minutes from my house) seat 2500+ and are always willing to host.

BY the way, guess who's going to be joining the WPIAL basketball committe next year???

Juniata would be ideal; Never been in their gym though, would it be big enough?

Juniata seats about 1800-2000. It could handle the crowd.

No matter how nice a middle school gym is, I think that the players who worked hard enough to make it to the D6 championships should be rewarded by playing in a nice venue like a college or something.

And I hope the D6 committee isn't hiding behind the excuse and saying that Tyrone is the best location because its in the middle of the two schools. The committee sent number 1 seed CC almost an hour and a half away to state college to play fifth seeded IV, a school no more than a half hour away. Make sense? Dont think so. A location such as Hollidaysburg or the best location I could think of, the fieldhouse, wouldve been ideal. It didnt affect CC very much from the looks of the score, but nevertheless I'd hate to see this happen to other high seed in the future
