Why do they feel the need?

Someone please tell me why McCort feels the need to put an article in the paper stating that their football and basketball coaches have received a contract extension as a sign of stability in their programs? This is what colleges do to ensure that their recruits can be confident that the guy that recruited them will be there for their entire career. But we all know McCort does not recruit. So why the article.

So does this mean that when Hollern is offered a teaching job at some area school such as the Social Studies positon at Westmont (after Roman leaves) that he will stay at McCort? I doubt it.

I also feel that McCort wanted to beat Westmont and Johnstown to the punch as both schools announce significant hires in the next week to ten days.

I noticed that in the paper too. It's almost like BM will do anything to get it's name in the paper. According to the article, BM's athletic director Fran Zima states, "This is an exciting time at Bishop McCort High School, and we want to maintain the continuity in the athletic department as well as continue our recent successes". What a bunch of crap! If this isn't a subtle way of recruiting, then I don't know what is. I mean how many times do you have to tell everyone in one way or another, that Salem led BM to the District 6-AA and the LHAC crowns, and that Hollern guided McCort to the AA basketball title this year. Honestly, this is unbelieveable.

Hey, I didn't start it. I'll tell you what's pathetic though. Most school districts will have a school board meeting at the end of the year and re-hire their athletic coaches. This never makes the news, unless someone is let go. But not only does McCort give us a press release in the Tribune, but their coaches aren't re-hired, THEY ARE GIVEN AN EXTENSION!!!! Just like in college. And of course they have to give us a summary of all their recent successes. Like I said, they'll do anything to get exposure in the newspaper.

My thought is that McCort wanted to keep the public's interest as Westmont and Johnstown make significant coaching hires in the very near future. They can't handle the fact that two neighboring schools will take away some attention for a few days of chit-chat. So does this "contract extension" keep both coaches at McCort even if a public school comes calling with a lucrative teaching or principal job? My guess is no. So in reality, the contract extension means about as much as the one Tom Crean received from Marquette just days before he left for Indiana or the one Travis Ford received from UMass days before he departed for Oklahoma State.

What about the baseball, softball, volleyball, track, cross-country, hockey, jr high baskeball, and soccer coaches? Didn't they receive extensions?
